As you may now, the city of Ottawa is the capital of Canada. Situated in the province of Ontario, it is a small but vital place full of joy, culture and manners. One of its most pleasant characteristics is the cleanliness and care off which its streets and buildings show. But, certainly, the Canadian spirit floods over Ottawa, mixing that little bit of rhythm with the stillness, just in the frontier between British and French territories.

A LITTLE BIG CITY
It’s the capital city of Canada, although it’s just the country’s fourth largest
municipality. It was colonized by the Europeans during the XIX century, and was
chosen as the capital city by Queen Victoria in 1875. This tiny city in the frontier
of East Canada and West Canada wasn’t a big cosmopolitan city, but its election
defined the so important Canadian balance between French and English culture.

Its name comes from the Odawa, a tribe

of native Indians.
It’s a really greenish city, almost totally

surrounded by nature, lakes and
mountains, as, for example, the Rideau
Canal.
On June 29, 2007, the Rideau Canal,

which stretches 202 km to Kingston,
Fort Henry and four Martello towers in
the Kingston area was recognized as a

 As you surely know, Ottawa
lays in an ancient native
land, in which Indian tribes
lived far long ago. In fact,
Ottawa comes from the name
of one of those communities,
the Odawa.
 Nowadays, that culture is
almost completely lost, and
we can’t admire it lively, just
visiting museums.

There are a lot of local
and different dishes in
Canada, like those
delicious sweets.
However, Ottawa
and Canada haven’t
got History enough
to support a real
culinary tradition.
