Otmar Gutmann is known for creating the stop-motion claymation series Pingu. In the early 1980s, Gutmann worked with graphic artist Harald Mucke to produce television advertisements, including their first short called Hugo. Gutmann pitched Hugo to Swiss television as "Pingu: A Pre-School Children's Story" and it became a full-time series in 1986. Pingu aired on BBC's Cbeebies until 2015. Gutmann's goal with Pingu was to make it educational for children by not including direct speech, allowing them to decode the visual story and use their imagination.

Otmar Gutmann is mainly known for his creation of the British-Swiss stop Claymation –
Pingu.
In the early 80’s, he was known to be working in a small studio with graphic artist Harald
Mucke in a competition to produce television advertisments. Their first short production
was called Hugo.
Hugo was then pitched to Swiss television, as Otmar believed it could go somewhere,
however; under the name of ‘Pingu: A Pre-School Children’s Story’’ and by 1986 the pilot
was accepted and become a full
time series.
Up until 2015, pingu was also shown on Cbeebies, as the BBC acquired British broadcast
and home video
rights to show the series in the UK.

3. PINGU
During production of Pingu, Gutmann’s main aim was to make it educational to children via the
technique of there not being direct speech that can be understood, meaning children can
decode the language and create their own visual and personal story.
Along with this, pingu also consists of other factors; involving teaching kids how to decipher a
visual story, and use their own imagination to create plots and themes throughout episodes.
