Othello (The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice) is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1603. It is based on the story Un Capitano Moro ("A Moorish Captain") by Cinthio (a disciple of Boccaccio's), first published in 1565.[2] The story revolves around its two central characters: Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, and his treacherous ensign, Iago. Given its varied and enduring themes of racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge, and repentance, Othello is still often performed in professional and community theatre alike, and has been the source for numerous operatic, film, and literary adaptations.

othello review Essay
Shakespeare has produced an incredibly large library of work, including 38 plays and countless sonnets. His plays are divided into four main sections: the Histories, the Tragedies, the Comedies, and the Romances. Othello falls under Tragedy, as it ends with the death of numerous characters, including the principals. Shakespeare s work has been produced since the Renaissance in all artistic mediums from the original theater to opera, symphony, film, and ballet. It has also been consistently revisited countless times by the same artistic medium because it is said to be timeless.
Othello s main topics are love, murder, jealousy, miscommunication, chastity, history, and even magic. The play encompasses the classic elements of Shakespeare s...show more content...Iago complains to Roderigo that he was not named Lieutenant by Othello, but rather Ensign. Othello, the Moorish general, made Cassio Lieutenant. Iago is enraged at his misfortunate and declares his hatred for the Moor. Roderigo, a Venetian gentleman is in love with Desdemona, the daughter of Senator Brabantio. Iago awakens Brabantio in the middle of the night to notify him of his daughter s elopement with Othello, much to everyone s surprise and disapproval. The Duke oversees the case between Brabantio and Othello, whom he believes to have bewitched his daughter with magic. Desdemona informs her father that she is in love with Othello and has married him.
Othello leaves for Cyprus and Desdemona soon follows him there. In Cyprus, Iago begins his devilish plan of destruction. During a festive evening celebrating the nuptials of Desdemona and Othello, Iago sends Roderigo to stir Cassio. A typically sober Cassio takes to the bottle at Iago s generosity, and then falls into duel with Roderigo. Because of the chaos, Cassio s reputation is seemingly smeared and his relationship becomes troubled with Othello. Iago tells Cassio to ask Desdemona to speak with Othello on his behalf. By doing so, Iago will plan the seed of jealousy in Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. Cassio befriends Desdemona, who does, in fact, attempt to sway Othello in his behalf. As she speaks with her

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Roderigo is upset because he loves Desdemona and had asked her father,
Brabantio, for her hand in marriage. Iago hates Othello for promoting a
younger man named Cassio above him, whom Iago considers a less
capable soldier than himself.
Iago tells Roderigo that he plans to exploit Othello for his own advantage
and convinces Roderigo to wake Brabantio and tell him about his
daughter's elopement. Meanwhile, Iago sneaks away to find Othello and
warns him that Brabantio is coming for him.
10. Summary
Brabantio seeks to confront Othello, he finds Othello's residence full of the
Duke of Venice's guards. News has arrived in Venice that the Turks are going
to attack Cyprus, and Othello is therefore summoned to advise the senators.
Brabantio has no option but to accompany Othello to the Duke's
residence, where he accuses Othello of seducing Desdemona
by witchcraft. Othello defends himself before the Duke of Venice,
Brabantio's kinsmen and various senators.
Othello explains that, while he was invited to Brabantio's home,
Desdemona fell on love with him for hos stories he told of his life before
Venice. Desdemona confirms that she loves Othello, but Brabantio leaves,
saying that Desdemona will betray Othello

armies against invading Turks on the island of Cyprus, accompanied by his
new wife, his new lieutenant Cassio, Iago, and Iago's wife, Emilia, as
Desdemona's attendant.
The party arrives in Cyprus to find that a storm has destroyed the Turkish
fleet. Othello orders a general celebration and leaves to consummate his
marriage with Desdemona. Iago gets Cassio drunk, and then persuades
Roderigo to draw Cassio into a fight.
Montano tries to calm down an angry and drunk Cassio. This leads them
to fighting and Montano gets injured. Othello arrives and questions the
men as to what happened. Othello blames Cassio for the disturbance and
strips him of his rank.

husband to reinstate him. Iago persuades Othello to be suspicious of Cassio
and Desdemona's relationship. When Desdemona drops a handkerchief
(the first gift given to her by Othello) , Emilia finds it and gives it to Iago
at his request, unaware of his plans. Othello then being convinced by Iago
of his wife's unfaithfulness, vows for the death of Desdemona and Cassio,
after this he will make Iago his lieutenant.
Iago goads Cassio on to talk about his affair with Bianca, a local
courtesan, but whispers her name so quietly that Othello believes the two
men are talking about Desdemona. Later, Bianca accuses Cassio of giving
her a second-hand gift, received from another lover.
13. Summary
Othello sees this, and Iago convinces him that Cassio received the
handkerchief from Desdemona. Enraged and hurt, Othello resolves to kill his
wife and tells Iago to kill Cassio. Othello proceeds to Desdemona strikes her
in front of visiting Venetian nobles.
Meanwhile, Roderigo complains that he has received no results from Iago
in return for his money and efforts to win Desdemona, but Iago convinces
him to kill Cassio. Roderigo attacks Cassio in the street, him. Iago comes
and cuts Cassio’s leg badly.
In the darkness, he manages to hide his identity, when Lodovico and
Gratiano hear Cassio's cries, Iago joins them. When Cassio identifies
Roderigo as one of his attackers, Iago secretly stabs Roderigo to death and
then accuses Bianca of attack on Cassio.
14. Summary
Othello confronts sleeping Desdemona. She denies being unfaithful, but he
smothers her. Emilia arrives, and Othello accuses Desdemona of adultery.
Emilia calls for help. The former governor Montano arrives with Gratiano
and Iago.
When Othello mentions the handkerchief as proof, Emilia realizes what
Iago has done, and she exposes him. Othello, belatedly realizing
Desdemona's innocence, stabs Iago. In the scuffle, Iago kills his own wife
Emilia and later he refuses to explain his motives.
He vows to remain silent from that moment on. Lodovico apprehends both
Iago and Othello for the murders of Roderigo, Emilia, and Desdemona,
