An open source NoSQL database that provides 150,000 inserts per second and has no dependencies. It supports document, graph and native JSON data structures and RESTful APIs. It offers ACID transactions with roles and security. It has four storage modes - embedded, client/server, distributed, and in-memory - with embedded mode being very fast by running in the same JVM as the application and in-memory mode keeping the database only in memory for increased speed but losing data at shutdown.
The document provides a comparison of various agile methods used in software development. It discusses the processes, roles and responsibilities, practices, and scope of several agile methods including eXtreme Programming (XP), Scrum, Crystal, Feature Driven Development, Rational Unified Process, Dynamic System Development Method, and Adaptive Software Development. The methods are compared based on their iterative processes, roles such as product owner and scrum master, common practices like daily stand-ups and planning games, and typical project sizes they work best for.
Austin Data Geeks - Why relationships are cool but join sucksOrient Technologies
The document discusses the differences between relational and graph databases in managing relationships between entities. Relational databases use joins to lookup relationships, which requires an index lookup for each join and slows down with large datasets and many joins. Graph databases directly store relationships between entities without indexes, making traversal faster. The document provides an introduction to graph theory concepts like vertices, edges, and properties to explain how graph databases represent and query relationships more efficiently.

The document provides an introduction to graph theory concepts like vertices, edges, and properties to explain how graph databases represent and query relationships more efficiently.
The document discusses using a graph database approach to manage time series and event sequence data. It describes representing time series and events as connected nodes in a graph, with relationships indicating timestamps and sequences. It also discusses optimizing such an approach by pre-aggregating data at different time intervals (e.g. minutes, hours) to speed up queries. Finally, it proposes a proof-of-concept implementation using OrientDB to demonstrate aggregating and querying time series data stored in a graph database.
This document discusses MongoDB, an open-source document database that can be deployed in a schema-less, schema-full, or schema-mixed manner. It supports scaling by allowing requests to be replicated or data to be sharded across multiple servers to improve performance and availability. MongoDB uses an Apache 2.0 license.
Orient is one of the largest consumer goods companies in Pakistan established in 2005. It aims to become the leading provider of consumer electronics through quality products and innovative research. Orient practices customer relationship management through various strategies such as customer retention programs, training retailers, and responding quickly to customer complaints through multiple customer service channels. While Orient does not directly deal with customers, it focuses on building loyalty through new technologies, competitive pricing, and high quality appliances.
OrientDB v2.2 introduces several new features including live queries, parallel queries, command caching, sequences, incremental backups, improved security features, an easier distributed configuration, load balancing strategies, and SQL commands for managing high availability configurations. It also introduces the Teleporter tool for migrating data from relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL into OrientDB.
This document discusses OrientDB, an open source NoSQL document database. It provides high performance and scalability through horizontal scaling across servers. It supports flexible schemas, full text search, and graph-like connections between data. The document describes OrientDB's products, data model using clusters, Java and RESTful APIs, examples using records and POJOs, and security features.
The document describes the evolution of OrientDB's database architecture from a master-slave model to a distributed, multi-master architecture. In the master-slave model, the single master node was a bottleneck for write operations. OrientDB's new architecture allows all nodes to accept writes, uses sharding to partition data across multiple nodes, and employs auto-discovery and replication techniques to improve scalability, availability, and failover. Hazelcast is used for distributed coordination and metadata storage.

Microservice Teams - How the cloud changes the way we workSven Peters
A lot of technical challenges and complexity come with building a cloud-native and distributed architecture. The way we develop backend software has fundamentally changed in the last ten years. Managing a microservices architecture demands a lot of us to ensure observability and operational resiliency. But did you also change the way you run your development teams?
Sven will talk about Atlassian’s journey from a monolith to a multi-tenanted architecture and how it affected the way the engineering teams work. You will learn how we shifted to service ownership, moved to more autonomous teams (and its challenges), and established platform and enablement teams.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
