Christopher Desjarlais is Métis from the Elizabeth Métis Settlement in Alberta.
Christopher works at Imperial’s Cold Lake Operation alongside his father and three
siblings. In his current role as Operations Sponsor, Christopher is responsible for the
coordination of input into project design and operability.
A graduate of Imperial’s Native Internship Program, Christopher continues his
involvement as a mentor, as well as developing strategies for Aboriginal recruitment
and retention.
Christopher is a graduate of SAIT’s Power Engineering Technology program and
holds a Certified Engineering Technologist professional designation with the
Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta.
Christopher lives on the Elizabeth Métis Settlement with his wife, son and daughter.
He enjoys hunting and fishing. Christopher has been involved with the Alberta
Native Hockey organization as a player and coach for the past 25 years. He is a
board member for the N.E. Aboriginal Youth Society and previously served as Vice-
Chair of the Elizabeth Métis Council.
Deborah Green, is a Cree Woman from Kawacatoose First Nation in Saskatchewan.
Deborah became inspired to pursue her career in diversity being an Aboriginal
woman who experienced barriers such as equal opportunity employment, career
development, society and cultural differences.
In her current role as a diversity recruiter, Deborah focuses on hiring diverse talent
for Shell. She has broad experience in employment, inclusion and retention relevant
to the recruitment of diverse candidates, engagement, strategy and policy. She is
widely recognized in the oil and gas industry as a First Nation female leader and she
is instrumental in increasing workforce diversity representation in her company.
Along with leading the Aboriginal employee network with Shell Canada, she is a
member of a variety of Aboriginal networks, groups, committees and organizations
that promote, develop and inspire Aboriginal people in Canada. She engages a
multitude of stakeholders/networks to promote Shell as an equal opportunity
employer of choice.
Andrea Hansen is Inuvialuit from Inuvik in the Northwest Territories.
Andrea has been involved in community related work across Canada in the arts,
not-for-profit, environmental consulting and oil and gas industries.With a degree in
English and passion for furthering relationships between indigenous and non-in-
digenous communities, Andrea found a natural fit in stakeholder engagement
work.
At ConocoPhillips, Andrea is the Sustainable Development Advisor for Arctic and
Exploration, which involves organizing and carrying out consultations in the Mack-
enzie Delta-Beaufort Sea region and ensuring the company understands the needs
and priorities of the communities in the region. Supporting community invest-
ment initiatives and capacity building efforts is another aspect of her work that she
especially enjoys.
While living in the south for stretches of time to pursue education and employ-
ment opportunities, Andrea has always sought ways to maintain ties to her home
and family and to stay involved in the northern community.
Joshua Fraser is a Cree,TsuuT’ina and Anishinabe man registered to the Peepeekisis
First Nation in Saskatchewan. Joshua was born and raised in Calgary but has also
lived on a few First Nation communities.
Joshua attended the Plains Indian Cultural Survival School before going on to study
History and Political Science at Mount Royal University. He believes in life-long
learning and is currently taking Marketing at the University of Calgary.
He started his career working and volunteering for many Aboriginal organizations
and initiatives, including the Calgary Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee,
Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and he was a founding member of the
Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. He currently has a small business that assists
Aboriginal organizations and businesses market their programs and initiatives to
the Aboriginal community.
Joshua currently works in downstream Marketing at Husky Energy where he
has held a number of roles in traditional marketing and consumer products and
services. He is also the current chairperson of the Husky Aboriginal Community
Network (HACN).
