Balkishen Singh was an Indian field hockey player who competed in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics, following in the footsteps of his father Brig Dalip Singh. He had a notable career as a coach, leading the Indian men's team at the 1968, 1980, and 1984 Olympics and the women's team to success in 1981 and 1982. He introduced the innovative tactic of playing with two center halves, including choosing future Indian coach Joaquim Carvalho for the position.
