Octavian Goga was a Romanian politician, poet, playwright, and journalist who served briefly as Prime Minister of Romania from December 1937 to February 1938. He was appointed by King Carol, who hoped Goga's government would collapse and increase the King's power. As Prime Minister, Goga introduced a series of anti-Semitic laws, stripping Romanian Jews of their citizenship in an attempt to outflank the popular support of the fascist Iron Guard movement. After resigning as Prime Minister, Goga suffered a stroke and died two days later at his estate in Transylvania.
