Bandura's observational learning theory proposes that people learn from observing others through four main processes: attention, where greater focus is paid to high-status role models; retention, forming a mental picture of demonstrations that is aided by repetition; motor reproduction, the ability to physically reproduce an observed demonstration; and motivation, having the drive to learn the skills being demonstrated.

This is the amount of notice or concentration
given to the demonstration.
Likely to be more if the role model is of a high
status
Eg – David Beckham demonstrating a
free kick.
Retention
A mental picture of the demonstration needs
to be created.
This is helped if the demo is
repeated.
Eg – you go over in your mind
Beckham taking the free kick
Motor Reproduction
Is the person watching the demo physically
able to reproduce it?
Eg – can a young child put swerve on the
free kick being demonstrated?
Motivation
Does the observer have the drive to learn the
skill being demonstrated?
