Citadel Outlets : Observation
2. Citadel Outlets
The area that I decided to observation for this project
would have to have to be my former employment
shopping center. Citadel Outlets is right at the heart
of the City of Commerce, CA, roughly 15 minutes
away from downtown.
3. Nautica
The first place that I wanted to observe
is also my first job. The store itself has
moved from their previous location to a
smaller venue but nothing has really
changed since I left 7 years ago. Some
of the staff is still there with higher
positions but merely everything else is
quiet the same. The clothing is folded
the same but minor enhancements
including new computers and a better
display for their watches and cologne.
This newer store is using better lighting
than before and newer paint than what
the previous building had before.
4. Tilly’s
My second and final job at the shopping
center was Tilly’s. I had spent almost 4 years
working at this store but left roughly 2 years
ago for a better opportunity. I took a picture
of the outside since I really never noticed how
big the Tilly’s sign really was. Usually when I
would go to work, I would automatically
know where to go but never paid any
attention to the sign. Also noticed that the
doors are always opened compare to the
other stores. This is a great way to adhere to
customers that the store is open but then
again, it lets out all the cold air from the air
conditioning (makes sense since the store
always felt hot when I would work). Another
thing that I want to point out would be the
giant banners that are in place by the
windows. This banners are there to catch
people’s attention while they are walking by.
5. Nike
One thing that stands out in the Nike
store would have to be the mannequin
display in the middle of the store. Most
stores have them standing or doing
same gestures like smiling or sitting
down. At Nike, the mannequin as
running with full Nike clothes. I don’t
think any other store in the shopping
center has this. Another observation
that I made is the escalator as well as
the shopping center only has 2 stores
like this, Nike being one. Some of the
stores are expanding sideways for more
room but the Nike store saved on
building on top of whatever floor space
they already had.
6. Under Amour
The observation I made at
Under Amour was that it
looked like a light house. Even
though it is non-operational,
the store stands out due to the
architectural outings. Another
plus, are the doors located on
both sides of the building
making it easier for customers
to enter and exit at whatever
time they want.
7. Levi’s
At Levi’s, there were a ton of employees
helping out customers, and fixing the
store constantly. One could only
imagine how many jeans they would
have to fold everyday. One thing that
stood out was the traditional classroom
lighting which seem kind of odd but it
did light up the store quite well. The
Levi’s light was at the cashier which
was in the middle of the store and it
gave an old nostalgic feeling. Another
thing that I noticed were that most of
the products displayed were straight
and squared off as well as all sizes
where available.
8. Gap
At the Gap, it was more a simple
store similar to Old Navy. It had
sale signs everywhere but there
clothing and product seems
rapidly placed there with no
attention to detail. But then
again since a ton of people were
inside the store, not all the
clothing can be perfect. One
thing that I noticed where the
displays near the ceiling through
out the store which made the
store look full.
