This document discusses the increasing adoption of cloud computing by the US government. It notes that government agencies are looking to cloud solutions to help address budget constraints while improving services, collaboration, and transparency. The document outlines the key steps the government has taken to support cloud computing, including establishing an office to oversee cloud initiatives and requiring agencies to consider cloud options for IT projects. It provides examples of government agencies and departments using Salesforce cloud applications.
The document summarizes a briefing at the National Press Club on GovCloud and cloud computing for the business of government. It provides an overview of the briefing topics which included the status and future plans of government cloud initiatives, challenges and opportunities of cloud computing, and speakers from NIST, DoD, EPA, and cloud services companies. Cloud Computing Building A Framework For Successful Transition Gtsijerry0040
The document discusses cloud computing and provides a framework for government agencies to successfully transition to cloud solutions. It defines cloud computing and outlines its key characteristics and deployment models. The benefits of cloud computing for government include increased capacity at lower costs, reduced IT operating costs and resources, and improved collaboration. The document proposes a five step Cloud Computing Maturity Model for agencies to follow: 1) consolidation of servers and resources, 2) virtualization, 3) automation, 4) utility or on-demand access, and 5) full adoption of cloud solutions. Each step builds upon the previous to help agencies maximize benefits while mitigating risks of the transition.
The document discusses how extreme weather can negatively impact businesses by preventing workers from commuting to the office. It notes that 97% of businesses were affected by extreme weather last year, but most do not have adequate contingency plans. During winter storms, over 20% of UK workers, or 6.4 million people, were unable to get to work in 2020 compared to 14% the prior year. Cloud computing allows workers to access work tools remotely, which could help businesses avoid losses when weather prevents on-site work.

ICEGOV2009 - Tutorial 5 - part 2 - Strategic Impact of e-Governmenton Economy...ICEGOV
This document discusses the strategic impact of e-government on economies and societies. It argues that e-government has developed more slowly than e-business due to differences in how businesses and governments are organized. Specifically, government organizations are still structured for paper-based processes while citizens now expect digital services. The document advocates for modernizing government through electronic information sharing, process automation, centralizing data, and redefining the role of clerks to focus on communication and decision making rather than routine tasks. This transition could yield significant economic and social benefits by reducing costs for both citizens and governments.

ICEGOV2009 - Tutorial 5 - Part 1 - Strategic Impact of e-Governmenton Economy...ICEGOV
This document discusses the strategic impact of e-government on the economy and society. It argues that the future of a country depends on developing an electronic, knowledge-based economy to provide jobs for educated young people. The government can stimulate such an economy by developing e-government services that allow innovative businesses to provide integrated electronic services based on public sector data. E-government should be more advanced than traditional business to encourage businesses to transform into e-businesses that utilize digital products and services. This will help create an electronic economy with advantages like reduced time and costs for business processes.
