This document discusses the transformation of a mid-century modernist building originally designed as a maritime hiring hall into a modern emergency department. The original design by architect Albert Ledner featured circular designs and nautical themes to symbolize fairness and equality. It has now been renovated to serve as an emergency department with separate areas for walk-ins, pediatrics, ambulances, and support facilities while maintaining the original modernist architectural style.
