OVERCOMING
TRIALS
James 1:2 “My brethren, count it
all joy when you fall into various
trials,”
James 1:3 knowing that the testing
of your faith produces patience.
James 1:4 But let patience have its
perfect work, that you may be
perfect and complete, lacking
nothing.
THINKING RIGHT TO OVERCOME TRIALS
a.) THINKING RIGHT IS THINKING
GUIDED BY AND CONSISTENT
WITH THE WORD OF GOD
Deuteronomy 11:18 (NIV)
18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts
and minds; tie them as symbols on your
hands and bind them on your foreheads.
b.) THINKING RIGHT IS ABOUT TAKING
OUR THOUGHTS TO MAKE THEM
OBEDIENT TO CHRIST…( ANY THOUGHT
THAT DISOBEYS CHIRST IS A WRONG
THOUGHT )
2 Corinthians 10:5
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension
that sets itself up against the knowledge of
God, and we take captive every thought to
make it obedient to Christ.
 c. THINKING RIGHT IS THINKING
UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT
Romans 8:6
The mind of sinful man is death,
but the mind controlled by the
Spirit is life and peace;
YOU MUST HAVE THESE
STRONG REVELATIONS
AND CONVICTIONS
ABOUT TRIALS TO
OVERCOME
1.TRIALS ARE HERE FOR LIFE
John 16:33  “I have told you
these things, so that in me you
may have peace. In this world
you will have trouble. But take
heart! I have overcome the
world. ”
2.) TRIALS ARE TESTS OF A GENUINE
AND GROWING FAITH IN GOD AND
DEEP LOVE FOR GOD
1Peter 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though
now for a little while you may have had to
suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
1Peter 1:7 These have come so that your
faith--of greater worth than gold, which
perishes even though refined by fire--may be
proved genuine and may result in praise,
glory and honor when Jesus Christ is
Deuteronomy 13:3
you must not listen to the
words of that prophet or
dreamer. The LORD your God is
testing you to find out whether
you love him with all your heart
and with all your soul.
3.) TRIALS MUST BE JOYFULLY ACCEPTED
WITH THE ASSURANCE THAT THEY ARE
NEEDED TO FORM OUR GODLY CHARACTER
ESPECIALLY PATIENCE.
James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall
into various trials, knowing that the testing of
your faith produces patience. But let patience
have its perfect work, that you may be
perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope,
patient in affliction, faithful in
prayer.
Proverbs 16:32 Better a patient
man than a warrior, a man who
controls his temper than one
who takes a city.
4.) TRIALS ARE INTENDED TO
ACCOMPLISH GOD’S GREAT PLANS
ILLUS: JOSEPH ( hated by all siblings except by youngest,
sold as slave, imprisoned, tempted )
Genesis 50:20 You intended to
harm me, but God intended it
for good to accomplish what is
now being done, the saving of
many lives.
5.) TRIALS MUST BE READILY PERCEIVED
AS TESTIMONIES GLORIFYING GOD FOR
HIS GRACE AND FAITHFULNESS
ILLUS: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
 ( burning furnace )
Daniel 3:28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said,
"Praise be to the God of Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his
angel and rescued his servants! They
trusted in him and defied the king's
command and were willing to give up their
lives rather than serve or worship any god
except their own God.
Daniel 3:29 Therefore I decree
that the people of any nation or
language who say anything
against the God of Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego be cut
into pieces and their houses be
turned into piles of rubble, for no
other god can save in this way."
6.) TRIALS OVERCAME ARE POWERFUL
ENCOURAGEMENTS TO OTHERS
PRESENTLY UNDERGOING TRIALS
2Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the
God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies and God of all comfort,
2Corinthians 1:4 who comforts us in all
our tribulation, that we may be able
to comfort those who are in any
trouble, with the comfort with which
we ourselves are comforted by God.
Note: effective encouragers to those in
trials are those who experienced the
trials themselves
