Jesus teaches that those who listen to and follow his teachings are wise, like building a house on solid rock that can withstand storms. In contrast, those who do not obey his teachings are foolish, like building on sand where the house will collapse in storms. Jesus taught with authority unlike religious teachers of his time, and his message called people to action while assuring them of triumph over difficulties through their trust in him.

and follows it is wise, like a person
who builds a house on solid rock.
Though the rain comes in torrents and
the floodwaters rise and the winds
beat against that house, it won’t
collapse because it is built on
bedrock.

• John 16:33 I’ve told you all this so that
trusting Me, you will be unshakable and
assured, deeply at peace. In this godless
world you will continue to experience
difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered
