North West Island is the author's favorite place located off the coast of Gladstone on the Great Barrier Reef. The author observes a beautiful sunset and birds nesting for the night, as well as a turtle laying eggs on the beach at night to avoid disturbing her. The next morning, the author sees turtle tracks on the beach from one finishing laying its eggs late and hurrying back to the water, passing gull tracks and facing threats from gulls and fish as it swims away, before the author returns to camp as the sun sets again.
