POLLUTION
M.SANGEETHA
• The word noise has a Latin origin Nausea meaning, a feeling of sickness at the stomach
with an urge to vomit. Noise is defined as unwanted sound or sound without value. Noise
pollution is the unwanted sound dumped into the environment.
• Noise pollution is believed to be a silent pollution because nothing is deposited after the
noise over
• noise is the measured by the unit decibel (dB).one decibel is equal to the faintest sound that
can be heard by the human ears .the permissible noise level is 125decibel
• Some people feel pain and discomfort with the sound of 80 dB .But more people do not feel
discomfort with the sound of 115 dB .Pain is usually felt at 145 dB .
NOISE POLLUTION
CAUSE OF NOISE POLLUTION
• Scooter
• Mills
• Cars
• Vans
• Buses
• Ships
• Motor bikes
• Motor Boats
• Kitchen appliances
• Aircrafts
• Industries
• Generators
• Tractors
• Tempos
• Fire crackers
• Supersonic aircrafts
• Loud popmusic
• Barking dogs
• Construction works
• Office equipment
• Factories
• Trucks
• Loud speakers
SOURCE OF NOISE POLLUTION
• The sources of noise pollution into three types. They are:
1. Automobile noise
2.Industrial noise
3.Domestic noise
AUTOMOBILE NOISE
• The noise arising from the automobiles is called the automobile noise.
• It is the traffic noise or transport noise.
• The automobiles include road traffic, rail traffic and air crafts.
• The road traffic includes two wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers. They are
scooters,bikes,autos,cars,JCBs etc.
CONT…
• Less noise(60dB)is produced by two wheelers. Maximum noise produced by jet air
crafts(100dB).
• Train produces more noise than road traffic.
CONT.....
• On the road, heavy vehicles produce more noise than light vehicles.
• Buses produce more noise than cars.
• Diesel vehicles produce more noise than petrol vehicles.
• Badly managed roads produce more noise.
• Noise is more in the big cities.
NOISE STANDARDS FOR AUTOMOBILES
• The Union Environment Ministry has prescribed noise standards for different
vehicles.
1.Two wheelers – 80 dB
2.Cars – 82dB
3. Buses and trucks – 85dB
4. Heavy vehicles – 89 to 91dB
CONTROL OF AUTOMOBILES
• The automobile noise pollution can be controlled by the following method:
1. Implementing Motor vehicle act for specifying the noise standards.
2.proper Maintenance of vehicles.
3.proper Town planning techniques.
4.construction of walls on the sides of roads and railway lines.
5.Raising of thick and high vegetation and growing of trees along the
sides of roads and railway lines.
INDUSTRIAL NOISE
• Heavy noise is produced by industries.
Eg. Steel industry, rice mill, flour mill, sawmill, work shops ,etc.
Industries produce 60 to 95 decibels of sound. The ambient air standards of noise
for industrial area is 75dB during day time and 70dB during night time.
• In industries noise is produced from the following activities
1. construction 2. power generation
3.product fabrication 4. processing
5. product assembly
CONTROL OF INDUSTRIAL NOISE
• Industrial noise can be controlled under Factories act.
• Use earplugs
• Follow the limits of noise level.
• Go green by planning trees.
• Turn off appliances at home and offices.
• Lower the volume
DOMESTIC NOISE
The noise produce in human. Domestic noise includes home entertainment
such as loud music and television, parties, animal noise, shouting, home
security alarms, temple bell, kitchen appliances.
