Editor's Notes

  1. Overview: Project is about a Vending machine That has an Interactive touch-screen interface which allows customization of healthy food Reason and impact of technology Convenience Customization to one’s preference Promotes healthy eating despite already being aware of the need for healthy eating but not doing so due to busy schedules Impact: to bridge the gap between knowledge of importance of healthy eating and the action of doing so
  2. Target group: tertiary students with tight schedules Reasons: Insufficient time due to packed timetables most tech-savvy group in population (refer to fiercewireless chart  target group has highest mobile usage) (refer to nielsen chart)  smartphone usage has increased significantly in the past year alone - Youths still receptive to new ideas, room to inculcate healthy eating habits in them
  3. Goal : Promote healthy eating in a fun and convenient way Activity : Consuming junk food due to wide availability and convenience + lack of motivation Task : Research has shown that perceived benefits is not enough to motivate them to eat healthily in the long run Use convenience and customization to appeal to them and increase their motivation to eating healthily
  4. Physical: Canteen, distances Social: long queue & peer influence Cultural: norm to frequent fast food outlets. heavy media advertising of fast food, grow up with the concept of accessing their food quickly.
  5. WHAT? - A vending machine linked with a website track the user’s purchasing behaviour suggest recommendations as well as provide tips on having a healthy lifestyle such as promoting the 2+2 guideline of 2 servings of fruits and veggies each everyday. • Sandwiches, salads, fruits, energy bars WHERE? • outside the various lecture theatres around campus - easily find them conveniently before and after their lectures Features: • scan one’s matric card on the machine to log into account (seamless with website) - today’s special as a healthy recommendation - unique selling point of our machine is that users can customize certain purchases (as seen in this flash video) if users do not want to customize or choose a set, the default would still include the healthier versions of the bread and vegetables (wholemeal and lettuce in this case). Reward system as incentive ‘ unlock’ even more options after attaining a certain number of membership points Exchange for gift vouchers • Online & offline - on-site - order online and choose where to collect food and make payment • $$ Cashless payment - accept ez-link and cashcard payment

  7. our technology would be feasible since: Customization is prevalent in online platforms Eg. H&M online stores allowing model to try on mix-and-match clothing items -vending machines already existent - increasingly getting larger with more advanced technology
  8. Strengths: Convenience factor Promotes 2+2 diet Allows personalization Foster sense of commitment through membership - Motivation to cultivate healthy eating habit - Incentive for regular purchases at NutriMe to earn more points
  9. Criticisms: Costly due to advanced technology used time consuming in terms of having to replace ingredients everyday Loss of matriculation card = unable to use NutriMe Large space needed to fit large scale machine Difficult to expand to a larger network since larger network = increased capacity which will slow down the entire network system Need time to accept the idea of customization initially but with acceptance + word of mouth, it can have a rapid positive effect as well
