An Electronic Health
Record
What is an EHR?
 It’s a system that lets you mobilize health
care information electronically across
organizations within a community, region,
or throughout the country.
Data in one place
 Create an aggregated patient chart.
 Generate reports.
 Avoid data errors.
 Maintain consistency.
 Give better health care to the patient.
Easy Access
 The system is web based and user friendly
and there is only one data connection
point to reduce complexity and costs.
 There is no hardware to rent or buy.
 No setup or installation fee.
 No need for extra phone lines.
 No long-term contract.
 Upgrades are now client installable.
Mission: Ahead. It’s our job to stay ahead of
the digital transformation of healthcare.
 Private Exchange – connects offices in the region/area and
aligns to organization specific business goals. The funding is
private and governance is enterprise driven.
 Regional Exchange – connects all the healthcare organizations
in a given region/area, along with national data providers,
local public health care organizations, and more. The funding is
private and the governance is with RHIO-Collaborative and
stakeholders.
 Exchange Network – connects several independent Health
Information Exchanges, creating a Health Information
Exchange network. These are usually at the state or federal
level and this one has the goal to achieve meaningful use and
patient safety. Funding is state, federal, and other sources, and
their governance is HIO created through a state designated
entity.
Advantages
 You can run reports to see where referrals, lab reports, and
more are located.
 You can control what information enters or leaves the EHR.
 Automatically import data into a patient’s chart and
generate meaningful reports based on the data.
 It can filter, import, and export data into and out of the file.
 It can communicate with NextGen Ambulatory EHR’s as
well as non-NextGen Healthcare EHR’s.
 Claims are done much quicker as the system has access to
adjudication rules prior to creation/submission, with the
ability for quick corrections within the application, and the
ability to accelerate their revenue cycle to get paid faster.
Transparent to users
 Scans your appointment schedule.
 Pulls the insurance data for all scheduled
patients.
 Communicates with insurance companies
to verify eligibility.
 For all health care offices, this can mean
smooth integration, smooth
implementation, consolidated billing, and
on-going support.
Patient Access / Mobility
 Patients have access to the information
they want, when they want it.
 They can log on from their mobile devices
to make payments.
 Request appointments.
 Email their doctor with questions they may
have.
Provider Access / Mobility
 Most physicians use a smart phone or a
tablet.
 NextGen allows the physician to take
productivity and patient care wherever
they go.
 Mobile notes works with the Apple and
Android voice recognition.
Features
 Automated appointment confirmation
service.
 E-prescribing of mediations
 Current with all ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
 Incorporates SNOWMED-CT updates.
 Meet Meaningful Use and ICD-10
requirements.
