Civil Rights Essay
The events that led to the Civil Rights movement were lots of violence and hatred towards the African Americans. They wanted to make an end of this cruelty and inequality, this led to the Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights Movement was necessary because it's not right for people to isolate or hate people because of their race or ethnicity. Before the Civil RIghts Movement, the white people would hate on and isolate the African Americans, to the point that the whites got paid better than them, and the children got separate education. The people and events of the Civil Rights movement brought the US closer to the ideals of the Constitution by following three principles from the constitution. These principles are establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosterity.
Two events that brought the US closer to establishing justice are the Freedom Rides and the Voting Rights Act. Martin Luther King Jr. also contributed in establishing justice in the US. The Freedom Rides were groups of people who chose to sit on the opposite side of the bus they were supposed to. The Freedom Rides established justice by raising awareness and making the states enforce intergration laws. The Voting Rights Act was a piece of federal legislation that prevents people from having to take literacy tests and voting taxes in order to vote. The Voting Rights Act helped the US live up to establishing justice because all races were able to vote, making the government more fair, and everyone has an equal say on who they want to vote for. Martin Luther King Jr. was a reverend who died at the age of 39 by being assassinated on April 4, 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. established justice by motivating the people to stand up for their rights and so justice will be served to all.
Some events and individuals that brought the US closer to insuring domestic tranquility are the Nashville Sit-Ins and in 1955 when Rosa Parks refuses to move from her seat. Diane Nash also helped insure domestic tranquility in the US. The Nashville Sit-Ins were groups of people, young and old, who sat on the counters of bars reserved for whites only. The people who sat on the counters peacefully were brutally beaten. The Sit-Ins insured domestic tranquility by standing up for your rights in a non violent manner. Sitting in restaurants does not cause any violence, unless someone else other than the people sitting are being violent. In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person. By doing so, the police arrested her. This event insured domestic tranquility because by not moving she isn't causing any forms of violence, remaining peaceful. Diane Nash was a civil rights activists who was one of the main people to participate in the Nashville Sit-Ins. By participating in this peaceful protest, she herself insured domestic tranquility by not .
In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

2. Background Info Bobby Seale was born October 22, 1936 and Huey Newton was born on February 17 1942 and died on August 22 1989. Growing up both men’s families were extremely poor and their families were forced to moved around a lot. The two met through the Afro-American Association or AAA in September 1962 and four years later they formed The Black Panther Party for Self Defense.
3. Black Panther Party The Black Panthers, who were influenced greatly by Malcolm X, were founded in 1966. They were an armed group that was started to stop unnecessary Police violence and discrimination against Blacks in Oakland. Each of the founders had a major role in the group Seale was a Chairman and Newton was The Defense Minister. In the beginning there were only six members in the group shown in the picture on the right. Elbert Howard Huey P. Newton Sherman Forte, Bobby Seale Reggie Forte and “Little” Bobby Hutton
4. In 1967 the group marched in California’s capitol Sacramento to protest the ban on weapons. They believed Blacks needed weapons to protect themselves from police brutality. The group had many shoot-outs with the Police. One of the most important ones resulted in Newton being jailed for the Murder of a Police Officer, another resulted in the murder of “Little” Bobby Hutton. There were some men who were defiantly guilty of crimes and deserved punishment for their actions but police were harassing members of the group who had done nothing. Very often the results of this harassment ended up in violent attacks. This is what Seale and Newton worked for throughout the entire time the group was active.
