Ghana traded gold across the Sahara desert for goods like peacock feathers which were reserved for the king. Trade was conducted via camel caravans. Ghana made much of its money through trade and had grown its army to 200,000 men funded by gold profits, making Ghana a world power for a long time. Ghana also constructed buildings from mud that could last a long time if properly maintained.
