1. Summer 2020
This Summer will be very different for many people. For those who go abroad
on holiday it may be a time to stay at home, for some a time to look at the new
and changed world we are nowliving in and for others an opportunity to visit
some part ofour own land. Obviously the last fewmonths have brought
change into all our lives. We are nowfamiliar with social distancing and
queues. We knowthe pressure ofshopping and not browsing. We are
becoming familiar with face masks and a desire to meet our larger family once
again. This Summer will be different, but let us hope we are moving into a
better space and a newworld of hope.
Church Books and Leaflets
During these days let us spend some time in prayer and reflection. Booksand
leaflets are available at our Church Bookstand and at the main entrance to the
Church on Saturday and Sunday.
Also, Copiesofthe Sunday Readings and Mass Programme for the Weekend
are available in the Church porch on Saturday and Sunday.
Carraroe National School
Our School is nowclosed for Summer Holidays. Work on newbuildings will
begin at the School on 13th
July. Please remember that the School grounds are
private and in the interest ofsafety not open to visitors.
Prayers at Home
In these extraordinary times when we cannot gather for Mass, we would
encourage you to download and print out this prayer booklet for use at
home. Perhaps consider printing off some copies to pass on to people who
may not have internet access. While you can pray this at any time, a good
time to do so would be at the time Mass is normally celebrated in your local
parish. https://www.elphindiocese.ie/prayers-at-home-when-gathering-for-
mass-is-not-possible/
Nobody watches you more than the people who can’t stand you

local swimming pool. I gave him a glass ofwater!

Church Opening
Our plan was to open the Church on the weekend of4/5th
July but due to
ongoing works at the Church this is not possible. As a result ofthe slating on
the Church roof some repairs and repainting have to take place on the inside
of the Church. We hope that this will be done in the coming week.
When the repairs are finished we will open. Weekend Mass times for nowwill
remain unchanged for the present that is 7.30pm on Saturday evening and
9.30am and 11.30am on Sunday. Seats will be closed offwith set areas for
seating in line with current social distancing. The Community Centre will also
be open with video and audio link. All Eucharistic Minsters have been
contacted and we will draw up a list for Parish Readers. Altar Servers will be
suspended for the present. Sunday Collection baskets will be available at the
back and side door as no collection will be taken up during Mass.As space is
now limited Retired people in our Parish might consider attending a morning
Mass in our Parish as Sunday obligation is suspended. Volunteers will be
needed to steward the entrance and showpeople to the seats and some people
will be needed for sanitation after each Mass. Modern and easy to use
equipment is nowavailable for sanitation. Entrance to the Church will be by
the back door only and exit via the side door. Obviously the opening ofthe
Church will be set out in the interest ofyour safety and the safety offellow
parishioners. Your co-operation when you visit will be needed and
appreciated. We are all on a learning curve. Let us support one another.

Fool the Devil
Three men are traveling on a ship, when they are accosted by the Devil. The
Devil proposes that ifeach man drops something into the sea and he cannot
find it, he will be that man's slave.Ifthe Devil doesfind it, however, he will eat
that man up. The first man drops a pure, clear diamond, and immediately gets
eaten. The second drops an expensive watch, trying to impress the Devil, and
gets eaten. The third man fills a bottle with water and pours it into the sea
yelling, "You think I'm a fool? Try finding that!"
