20. An Interesting Incident
BROCK UNIVERSITY
DISCIPLINES STUDENT FOR RECYCLING
A Brock University student was suspended for promoting recycling.
He claims the campus does not provide easy access for students
to recycle and that the dumpsters are filled with recyclable
material. To prove his point, he made a video (which can be found
on YouTube), showing where the dumpsters are and how the
majority of the students take the easy (or lazy) approach to
throwing everything into the bins that are closer to their residence
than going the extra distance to use the recycle bins. The student
feels that this will lead to a negative ripple effect when the other
students move on: If they are not recycling now, they will probably
not recycle later.
21. Reducing organic waste to
landfills is a hot topic this
year.
Paper and cardboard
represent the largest source
of waste in Canada.
Every year we dispose of 24
million tons of leaves and grass
clippings, which could be
composted to conserve landfill
space.
As of July 12, 2013, the U.S
is disposing of 95% of their
food waste in landfills and
incinerators.
