both local and national news stories. We’ll also be interviewing the people YOU want to hear
from.
COMING UP
Bird Flu panic has been going around China which is the result of a new strain of avian flu that
has led to 17 deaths over April.
And more pain for parents as The English Schools Foundation plans to increase school fees by
up to 5.9%.
We have lighter news coming up. We’ll be talking about the new and exciting vibrating cinema
seats coming to Hong Kong, gossip on a facebook page that was created called SIS Secrets
and reviews on the latest trends with cool, fun apps that are must­haves!
And #NEWS wants you to get involved with our new Selfie of the Week feature, so stay in tuned.
3. NEWS PACKAGE 1 – BIRD FLU ­ MOLLY, KATE & JUSTIN (02’00”)

Recently over the past few weeks, bird flu has been in the spotlight of many chinese citizens in
China. A lot of people have been affected by it, and with the rapid rate of it being spread people
all over the country are getting terrified. 130 people were diagnosed with it, and 35 of those died
from the avian flu. This has caused a panic in places around china especially Hong Kong after
SARS and Swine Flu.

The Citizens of Hong Kong are worrying about H7N9 virus arriving in Hong Kong as other
epidemic viruses in the past such as Sars and Swine Flu have spread into Hong Kong with ease
causing the whole nation to break down. Because of this, more than 1,200 people in Hong Kong
were quarantined because of SARS and swine flu.
Hong Kongers has already taken action to try to prevent themselves and their family members to
get infected with this virus. A lot of local citizens has been dropping live chickens from their

2. shopping lists and is spending the money on masks and hand sanitizer. "the sale of live
chickens has been greatly affected. We are losing a lot of money" said Tsui Ming­Tuen ­

4. STUDIO NEWS STORY 1 ­ Vibrating Cinema Seats ­ QUENTIN (00’30”)
Have you ever gone to see an action film where the explosions are so loud you can almost feel
the rumble? If you love explosions in movies, you may be in luck...

Vibrating cinema seats that vibrate to the sound of a film seem to be taking Hong Kong by storm.
While serious film aficionados are dismissing them as a fad, cinemas and moviegoers in Hong
Kong are starting to take up this trend.
With already several cinemas in Hong Kong including Broadway and Grand Cinema featuring
vibrating seats and more coming by the end of summer, things could be getting shaky near you.
5. STUDIO NEWS STORY 2 ­ SIS Secrets ­ JUSTIN (00’40”)
The secret is out! The number of School Secret pages on social network sites where students
reveal their thoughts and gossip on teachers, students and school. SIS Secrets the page for
South Island School was taken down within a week since it started posting 'secrets'. Many
teachers believe that some posts on the page were offensive and would create a bad image for
the school. However, the reason they took down the SIS Secret page was due to alleged
copyright infringement.
Although most schools have forums where students can discuss their thoughts about school
related topics, many have taken to the secret pages as they would remain anonymous. Although
most schools have taken their secret pages down, some schools believe that school secret
pages are a good platform to let others know about their thoughts on the school while remaining
anonymous.
6. NEWS PACKAGE 2 – ESF FEES# ­ AIMEE, EDEN, TARA & QUENTIN (02’00”)

With the recent increase in ESF fees, most would think that it would be unnecessary the
price being high already, however, parents have responded positively to this due to the
improved infrastructure brought on by the increased funding. More from our reporter; Tara

The English Schools Foundation is planning to increase fees by almost 6 percent.
A letter to parents from the ESF's chief executive, Heather Du Quesnay, said the move was
necessary to cover a 3.5 percent pay rise for staff. [Move into voiceover] The recent rise in
fees also contributes to the funding of improving educational services such as our Atrium,
Learning Resource Centre, and the future Raise the Roof Project.

South Island school is a school that loves to get involved in every sport it possibly can. Over the
past few months, the school’s A, B and C grade teams have won and lost games and matches
but one thing remains the same. The school’s team spirit.
To start off, we have the C grade rugby boys becoming the champions of HKSSF, winning by a
great margin of 29­0. To follow, the A grade rugby boys did just as well, winning the same
tournament 20­7. The B Grade boys and girls basketball team both became the ESF champions
claiming the prize in the first term. Then, diving in the water, the girls swimming team came first
on the HKSSF leader board and the boys swimming team was promoted from division 1 to
division 2.

Thanks, (Reporter). Every year, SIS holds a Sports Awards Ceremony to congratulate students
on their achievements throughout the year. Many trophies and awards are given, but it all comes
down to who wins the Sports Boy and Girl of the year. Here we have Josiah Calugay, one of the

There are many new applications out there which are used for taking your own pictures and
sending them to friends. Apps such as Snapchat and Poke allow you to send your friends
pictures and videos that will only last for up to 10 seconds and then they will disappear. As it's a
popular trend Selfies all over the world on people's smart phone are becoming increasingly

5. popular with people aged 12­40. These apps are there to help fuel these trends, and for them
being both free and easy to download, you and your friends can trade selfie pictures any time
and any where.
11. REGULAR INTERACTIVE FEATURE ­ SELFIE OF THE WEEK? ­ KATE (00’25”)
With all of these new apps available, it means that taking ‘selfies’ has become increasingly
popular. People pulling faces, striking random poses and drawing on pictures of themselves. We
