Scientists believe that a novel strain of swine flu virus emerged in pigs after two common swine influenza viruses from Eurasia and North America exchanged genes. Signs of swine flu in pigs include fever, coughing, sneezing and breathing issues. For humans, swine flu causes mild, flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches and cough, from which most people recover without treatment. While there is a vaccine for pigs, there is currently no vaccine available to protect humans from swine flu.
