George Subraj leads his familyoperated company, Zara Realty
Holding Corporation, with a
fundamental interest in improving
the quality of life in his hometown,
Jamaica, New York. To that end,
George Subraj appreciates the
positive impact created when new
business comes to the area.
3. In May of 2013, Blumenfeld
Development Group and the Greater
Jamaica Development Corp. agreed to a
$50 million retail project that will occupy a
parking lot in downtown Jamaica. Upon
completion, the area’s first major
department store in 30 years might
occupy space in the retail center. Project
developers believe the district can
support a large department store, and a
spokesperson for the Jamaica Center
Business Improvement District expressed
optimism that big developers see such
economic potential in downtown Jamaica.
4. After a city review process, the
project will take approximately
two years to complete. A major
department store would serve as
a valued anchor tenant, which
would promote other tenants and
future development. A similar
project in East Harlem includes
big retailers, such as Target and
Costco.
