______
I enjoy combining law, social media and technology to disrupt, hack, and improve my clients’ companies, causes, and professional relationships. Because of the results I consistently gets for my clients, I’ve been honored to be named a 2009 Orange County Trial Lawyer of the Year and a 2013 California Litigation Lawyer of the Year.
When I’m not trying cases, I use digital, web3 and metaverse platforms to help good attorneys become great trial lawyers and to show everyone (not just lawyers) how to communicate and negotiate more persuasively and effectively. I’m an early adopter of live video and have spoken at the New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles Periscope Summits, and Social Media Day San Diego. A couple of memorable experiences include shows with Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, Seth Godin, Peter Diamandis, and Gary Vaynerchuk.
I enjoyed serving as a consulting expert to the book, “Shame Nation,” by Sue Scheff with a foreword by Monica Lewinsky. I’ve also been profiled in a dozen marketing books and for two straight years, shared the stage for two years with David Meerman Scott at Tony Robbins Business Mastery before thousands of people in the audience. Recently, I was a highlighted speaker at the CEX conference in Phoenix, Arizona, focusing on law in Web3 and the Metaverse.
I’m so impressed with the opportunities offered by digital and cloud based technology, including social media, Web3, the Metaverse and AI, that I’ve written several books on these topics. They include:
“The Web3, Metaverse and AI Handbook”
“From AI to Blockchain: 14 Technology Trends Every Lawyer Must Know!”
“The Ultimate Guide to Social Media for Business Owners, Professionals and Entrepreneurs”

New Lawyers- Learn These Six Skills!
1. New Lawyer Tips
Listen up, my dear friend. If there's one thing
I want to drill into your brain today, it's this:
you need to grant yourself the freedom to
acknowledge that the practice of law is a
never-ending adventure. No one, and I mean
no one, has it all figured out.
MINDSET
2. New Lawyer Tips
So, instead of beating yourself up for not being a
master of everything, why don't you take a moment
to relish in the thrill of the ride? Revel in the
chance to learn, grow, and develop your skills as
you navigate through the twists and turns of
learning the ropes. You're going to win and lose. It's
all part of the process and grand scheme of things.
MINDSET
3. New Lawyer Tips
I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Are you
ready? Here it is: if you want to win in court, you've
got to do something that's as difficult as it is vital.
You've got to listen more than you talk. I know, I
know, it's not easy to put a sock in it and let
someone else take center stage. But believe me
when I say that it's worth it.
LISTEN
4. New Lawyer Tips
When you actively listen to the other side, you gain a
deeper understanding of what makes them tick. You
get a sense of what matters to them, what their goals
are, and what their pain points are. And armed with
that knowledge, you can craft a response that
resonates with them and gets results. So, take a breath,
and let those ears do their thing. You'll be amazed at
what you can learn when you simply shut up and listen.
LISTEN
5. New Lawyer Tips
Go out of your way to add value to other people.
Do what you can to help them achieve their goals.
Share your connections and network with others.
When you do this you build trust and goodwill. It's
also just the right thing to do.
BE A GO-GIVER
6. New Lawyer Tips
And the best part? When you give without any
expectations of receiving anything in return, that's
when the magic happens. That's when doors start
opening, opportunities start flowing, and the
universe rewards you in ways you never could have
imagined.
BE A GO-GIVER
7. New Lawyer Tips
Lawyers who know how to communicate are successful
lawyers. If you want to be a successful communicator,
you've got to put in the work. That means spending time
each and every day honing your craft and studying the
masters. You need to learn the art of storytelling and how
to wield its power to captivate your audience. You need
to understand the power of metaphors and how to use
them to make complex ideas simple and relatable.
COMMUNICATION
8. New Lawyer Tips
And perhaps most importantly, you need to study the
techniques that allow you to leverage your voice and body
language to communicate more clearly and persuasively.
This isn't some overnight hack or quick fix. But trust me
when I say that the rewards are well worth the effort. When
you invest in your communication skills, you'll be able to
connect with people on a deeper level, inspire them to take
action, and create real change in your practice and the
outcome of your cases.
COMMUNICATION
9. New Lawyer Tips
People can smell a phony from a mile away. Yup, that's
right. No one likes a faker. So, instead of trying to be
someone you're not, why not embrace the unique and
amazing person you are? When you bring your true,
authentic self to the table, you automatically set yourself
apart from the pack. Speak from the heart, my friends.
Look opposing counsel, the judge, and the jury in the
eyes and be real with them. But don't just stop there.
BE REAL AND TRANSPARENT
10. New Lawyer Tips
Be strategically transparent, meaning don't share your
problems with everyone and their mom. Nobody's got time for
that. Instead, share how you feel. During jury selection, for
example, I've been known to tell the jury that I'm nervous.
That I'm worried I won't do a good job for my clients. That this
is their one and only opportunity to find justice. I ask if any of
them feel the same way? And you know what? That level of
honesty builds rapport and connects us in a way that nothing
else can. So, my friends, don't be afraid to be vulnerable.
Embrace who you are and share it with the world.
BE REAL AND TRANSPARENT
11. New Lawyer Tips
Listen up, my fellow warriors of justice, because I've got some
straight talk for you. Are you ready? Good. Here it is: your
reputation is everything. That's right, I said it. Everything. It's
more valuable than gold, more powerful than a magic wand, and
more important than your favorite caffeine fix. So, what does
that mean for you? It means that you need to be unwavering in
your commitment to doing what's best for your clients. It means
that you need to steer clear of any and all conduct or activities
that could potentially tarnish your sterling reputation.
REPUTATION
12. New Lawyer Tips
And it means that you need to keep your promises to your
clients, opposing counsel, and the court. Because once you
lose your reputation, my friends, it's like trying to put
toothpaste back in the tube. It's darn near impossible. So, let
this be a wake-up call for you. Guard your reputation like it's
your most prized possession, because in many ways, it is. And
remember, the most successful attorneys are the ones who
have built a rock-solid reputation based on trust, integrity,
and unwavering commitment to doing what's right. Without a
good reputation in this profession, you have nothing.
