The site is being prepared. Each pile of blocks is called a pad and they all
create a level surface for the new classrooms to sit on.
Thursday 22nd December.
Tony said they would be starting at first light, so I got up at 7 am,
when I came downstairs and put the kettle on, I heard a funny
noise outside the back door. They were already craning in the
                         first section!
7.30 am. The crane was huge, I had to walk under it to
get in position and I just got there in time to see them
                 lower the first section.
The straps were unhooked and the crane returned to
pick up the next section, it’s a bit lighter now, about
                         8am!
Swinging in over the ceramics studio.
Using a rope to guide it into position.
Lowering it down and pulling protective strips
off the sides, ready for joining the two units.
I popped home for a coffee, and when I came
back they were just picking up the third section.
Over the office and down the other side. There are
toilets in this bit I think!
“Down, down, ten mil your way, back a bit, yep perfect!”
Checking the levels, making sure the gap is exactly right before
finally lowering the section in place. The man in orange is
directing the crane operator using a walkie talkie.
The fourth section, swings across and is carefully
guided into position, ready to be lowered.
“Hold that position, a bit lower, nearly there.” A
bit of a shove and it’s in position.
I nipped back to make Matthew’s breakfast, and this was what
was going on out on the main road. This is the final section,
getting ready to be backed into the car park and lifted into place.
When I returned, they’d already positioned the fifth section.
Now for the tricky one, look how small a space they will be
                        working in!
Easy does it……….. I was a bit worried about the
         ceramics studio at this point.
A tight fit.
Phew!! All done.
10.30am. It wasn’t easy to get a shot of the
whole thing, this was the best I could do.
              Looking good!
Putting the crane away.
Now for the Garden!!
