Tabreed, a district cooling company in the UAE, achieved energy savings of 1.2 billion kWh in 2013, equivalent to removing 110,000 cars from the roads. This included savings of 1 billion kWh in the UAE alone from Tabreed's 60 district cooling plants. Cooling accounts for around half of total energy consumption in the GCC region, making energy efficient solutions vital for meeting growing cooling demands while lowering environmental impact.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) is rebranding almost all of its subsidiary companies under a single Adnoc brand as part of a transformation strategy to make the company more efficient, commercially focused, and innovative. Adnoc's 20 specialist subsidiaries and joint ventures will be consolidated into 16 operating companies under the unified Adnoc brand, with some companies like Zakum Development Company and Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company being combined into a single Adnoc Offshore brand. The rebranding supports Adnoc's efforts to create a more progressive, performance-driven culture within the company. Adnoc's group CEO said each company would maintain operational autonomy within the new centralized governance model and that the rebrand
Korea Gas Corp plans to sell less than 49% of its stake in Iraq's Akkas gas field after commercial production begins in 2015. This will allow it to retain operatorship of the field. The Akkas field is on track to start producing around 400,000 cubic feet of gas per day in September 2015. Korea Gas also has no plans to sell its 10% stake in a gas field in Mozambique, denying a previous report. Additionally, South Korea's Kogas is looking to sell some of its overseas assets to improve its finances and reduce debt.

Mubadala Petroleum, an Abu Dhabi investment fund, made a substantial gas discovery in offshore Malaysia. This was Mubadala's fourth find in the block and together the discoveries represent a significant gas resource that could be commercially developed. Mubadala owns 55% of the block and will work with partners Petronas and Shell to evaluate development options. Additionally, construction of a large urea plant in Saudi Arabia called SAFCO-5 has been delayed until early 2015, pushing back the plant's start up. Iraqi oil exports from southern ports remain near record levels in June despite insurgent violence in northern and central Iraq, which has not impacted the south.

Seychelles and the UAE's Masdar Company have launched a renewable energy initiative to establish wind and solar projects in Seychelles. The initiative aims to secure domestic energy needs as Seychelles has poor hydrocarbon resources and limited funds for energy imports. Masdar has already helped build a 6-MW wind farm providing over 8% of energy for the largest island. Saudi Arabia's crude oil exports fell to a 5-month low in May due to refinery maintenance in China, its largest customer. Oil prices were little changed as abundant supplies and the potential for increased Iranian exports under a nuclear deal offset a stronger US dollar. Oman's state-owned OOCEP is continuing exploration in Block 60 where it has successfully developed the country's first commercial

Marubeni Corporation, a major Japanese trading house, has become a trading member of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME). This comes amid continued growth for the DME, with a 20% rise in participants year-over-year. The DME facilitates crude oil trading between the Middle East and Asia. In another development, Abu Dhabi National Chemicals Company and Indorama Ventures have established a joint venture called Tacaamol to develop an aromatics plant in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, Iraq says a proposed pipeline project to transport oil and gas to Jordan and Egypt will be financed through investment by executing companies rather than direct financing from Iraq.

- Japan's use of fuel oil for power generation is expected to fall 53% in the coming fiscal year if 16 nuclear reactors resume operations, reducing demand for fuel oil in Asia and putting downward pressure on prices.
RasGas Company Limited signed a three-year agreement to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar to E.ON's Isle of Grain terminal in the UK. The contract has the potential to supply up to two billion cubic meters of LNG over its term. E.ON regards Qatar as a priority country in expanding its global LNG business. Qatar currently supplies LNG to 26 of the 29 importing countries and accounts for 33% of global LNG supply. Global LNG demand is expected to double in the next 10 years but new supply projects face challenges that could delay or cancel some projects, keeping the LNG market tight.

The UAE government is preparing a new "Rationalization Law" to help consumers understand their role in preserving energy sources and help the government study future options. The law will promote awareness campaigns to reduce energy and water consumption. The UAE aims to diversify its energy sources, using fossil gas for 70-75% of consumption, nuclear for 25%, and renewable for 5% by 2020. The minister expressed that continued heavy subsidies are unsustainable and do not create a competitive economy, though subsidies will continue for logical consumption.
Oman aims to maintain its oil production levels of around 950,000 barrels per day for the next 2-3 years through improved and enhanced oil recovery techniques. The Oman oil minister also expressed support for ending fuel subsidies, which are currently unsustainable, while acknowledging this is a politically sensitive issue. Abu Dhabi has received strong interest from international firms to participate in its largest oilfields under revised terms as it takes full control, and may partner with major Asian energy buyers in addition to continuing with Western oil companies.
US company IPR discovered oil and natural gas at a well in Egypt's Gulf of Suez. The well tested at rates of 3,611 barrels of oil per day and 2.9 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. IPR plans to invest in 57 wells in Egypt in 2014 to increase production and reserves. Separately, Drydocks World delivered the second of two modular capture vessels to Singapore-based AET to aid in oil spill response in the Gulf of Mexico. The vessels can store and process up to 700,000 barrels of liquid each.
Yokogawa wins a contract to supply control systems, safety systems, and analytical equipment for four new supercritical power plant units in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The $2.8 billion project will be the country's first supercritical thermal power plant. Taqa, an Abu Dhabi energy company, reported a 158% increase in quarterly profit due to higher oil and gas revenues. The expansion of a Saudi-Japanese petrochemical plant is expected to cost $8.5 billion, higher than originally estimated. Libya's El Feel oilfield has restarted production after protests led to closures, but the larger El Sharara field remains closed without an agreement to reopen its pipeline valve.
Dolphin Energy reports zero supply interruptions and 100% plant availability in 2013. It achieved environmental targets such as 20% reduction in flaring and 4% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Oman Oil Refineries begins work expanding Sohar refinery's capacity by 82,000 barrels per day. Gazprom Neft begins production at the Badra oil field in Iraq, with commercial production expected to begin after testing is completed in 3 months. Seadrill secures a 5-year contract from Total for its newbuild drillship West Jupiter to work on the EGINA project offshore Nigeria. Faroe Petroleum announces spudding of the Butch South West exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea.
The document discusses two energy projects in the Middle East:
1) The Tafila Wind Farm in Jordan, which is 31% owned by Masdar, will begin delivering electricity in Q1 2015. It will provide nearly 400 GWh annually to over 150,000 Jordanians for $290 million.
2) Work is ongoing to expand the Dolphin Gas Pipeline between Qatar and the UAE, despite a diplomatic spat. The expansion will allow Qatar to export the full 3.2 billion standard cubic feet of gas the pipeline was designed for.

The document discusses recent trends in US crude oil imports. It finds that US crude oil imports increased by 528,000 barrels per day during the first half of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015, reversing a multi-year downward trend. Imports from OPEC nations like Nigeria and Iraq rose significantly, while imports from Mexico declined. The increase in imports was driven by narrowing price spreads between US and international benchmarks, as well as a decline in US crude oil production. Imports rose most significantly to the East and Gulf Coasts of the US.

Independent Study - College of Wooster Research (2023-2024) FDI, Culture, Glo...AntoniaOwensDetwiler
"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.

There are no fixed maturity dates in such securities, and asset’s value is determined by company’s performance. There are two major types of equity securities: common stock and preferred stock.
Common Stock: These are simple equity securities and bear no complexities which the preferred stock bears. Holders of such securities or instrument have the voting rights when it comes to select the company’s board of director or the business decisions to be made.
Preferred Stock: Preferred stocks are sometime referred to as hybrid securities, because it contains elements of both debit security and equity security. Preferred stock confers ownership rights to security holder that is why it is equity instrument
