Over 1 in 4 people in Nepal were affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck on April 25, 2015. The earthquake killed over 14,000 people, injured over 7,500, and displaced around 24,000 internally. More than 8 million citizens of Nepal, out of a total of 27 million, were impacted by the disaster. Infrastructure and housing suffered extensive damage, with over 200,000 homes destroyed and another 190,000 damaged. Most health facilities outside major cities became non-functional, and millions of people needed urgent assistance with food, water, and sanitation.
