What is NDA?
National Defence Academy
is the Joint Services
Academy of three wings of
Indian Armed forces namely
Indian Army, Indian Navy
and Indian Air Force. The
Cadets of these three wings
train together before going
to their respective Service
Academies for further pre-
commissioning training. The
Academy is located at
Khadakwasla near Pune in
Maharashtra
Admission in NDA
NDA Exam is conducted
twice a year by Union
Public Service
Commission. Applicants
to NDA are selected
through a written exam
followed by Interview
which covers general
aptitude, psychological
tests, social skills, physical
tests and medical tests.

Eligibility Criteria for NDA
Nationality
• A candidate must either be (i) a citizen of India, ii) Bhutan,
or (iii) Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to
India before the 01st January 1962 with the purpose of
settling in India permanently(v) a person of Indian origin
who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East
African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of
Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam
with the intention of permanently settling in India, are also
eligible to apply
• However a candidate who belongs to the Category (i), (ii),
(iv) and (v) above will have to produce an eligibility
certificate issued by the Government of India, Certificate of
eligibility is not required in the case of candidates who are
Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Age Limit
The age range for NDA 1 2018 is from 2ndJuly
1999 to 2nd July 2002. Birth mentioned in the
matriculation certificate will be considered as
proof of age
Educational Qualifications
(i) For Army Wing: 12th pass or equivalent
examination conducted by a State Education
Board or a University
(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings: 12th Class pass
with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a
State Education Board or a University
Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class
under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or
equivalent examination can also apply for this
examination
NDA syllabus
• Paper-I:-Mathematics(Algebra, Matrices and
Determinants, Trigonometry, Probability,
Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus,
Differential equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics
and Probability)
• Paper-II General Ability Test
• Part A- English, Part –B General Knowledge
(Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social
Studies, Geography & Current Affairs and Events)
• Paper- 3 Intelligence and Personality Test
• Candidates who have qualified the written test of NDA are called
for the SSB (Services Selection Board) round, which is the
personality and intelligence interview. It consists of two stages.
• Stage-1 :-
• Officer Intelligence Rating:- Jumbled words, Arrangement of
Words in Alphabetical orders, Difference or similarity between
images , pattern finding, word substitution, Number Sequence,
Arithmetical questions s and Picture Perception & Description Test
(PP&DT): A picture is shown in this test. You are required to write
a story on the picture shown, narrate it and discuss it.
• Stage-2, Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests
and Conference will be conducted.
How to apply for NDA
• NDA Application forms will be available from 10th Jan 2018
in online mode only. No offline mode is available to apply.
• NDA Registration will be in two parts’
• In Part-I, a candidate is required to fill in the basic details
like personal and educational details.
• A Registration number will be generated after part-1
registration.
• In part-2, Students are required to select the examination
centre and pay fee via online or offline mode.
• Upload the scanned photograph and signature. Check the
declaration box and submit the form.
• Take a printout of the form for further use. There is no need
to send a hard copy of the form by post.
Application Fee for NDA
• For General and OBC candidates : Rs 100/-
• For SC/ST and wards of NCOs/JCOs: No fee
• The fees can be paid by both online and offline
modes .
• Online Fee can be paid through VISA/ MASTER
Card or NET BANKING
• In offline mode, fee can be paid through E-challan
in State Bank of India.

NDA exam pattern
• The paper consists of Objective Type
Questions only. The Maximum marks for
Mathematics is 300 and that of General
Ability Test is 600. There is negative marking
for each incorrect answer.
Preparation Tips for NDA
Before you start preparing for NDA Examination, You must be aware
about the pattern and syllabus of the examination. Following are the tips
that will be helpful in achieving your goal:-
• Be clear about your goals. Start preparing for NDA exam immediately
after you are over with your Higher Secondary exams as NDA syllabus
contains subject which are mostly covered up in higher secondary.
• Collect good and relevant study material at the initial stage.
• For mathematics you should be clear about the concept. Learn the
shortcuts and practice it over and over.
• Profound studies in English will help you getting a good score in English.
• Take a survey athe habit of guessing answers as it will lead to negative
marking.
• Go through the online mock tests.
• bout previous years’ papers and solve it.
