This document provides an overview of various mapping tools that can be integrated into social studies classrooms, including Google Earth, Google Maps, David Rumsey's Historical Maps, National Geographic Education mapping tools, Newspaper Map, StrataLogica, Historypin, Animaps, Scribble Maps, Target Maps, Show World, zombie-based learning tools from www.zombiebased.com, and resources from the Arizona Geographic Alliance. It recommends starting with a few tools, adding more gradually, being willing to try alternative approaches if something doesn't work well, letting students provide feedback, and choosing what works best for the individual teacher and students.
