National NGO leaders from Cote d'Ivoire, Pakistan, Somalia, and Zimbabwe met in Geneva in February 2013 to discuss their experiences with humanitarian coordination and define future strategies. They sought to share lessons, find practical solutions to engagement challenges while considering local context, and establish effective follow-up mechanisms. Key discussion themes included how to mobilize more flexible resources, articulate NNGO value compared to INGOs, improve national networks through inclusive systems, advocate for greater NNGO inclusion in decision-making, protect civil society space, and advocate to governments to invest in disaster prevention over just emergency response. The workshop informed related discussions at a broader ICVA conference on bridging humanitarian and development divisions.
