This document defines narrative and various genres and subgenres of writing. It explains that a narrative is an account of related events that can be presented through words, images, or a combination. There are five main genres: nonfiction, fiction, folklore, drama, and poetry. Fiction subgenres include historical fiction, science fiction, and realistic fiction. Folklore subgenres comprise myths, legends, fairy tales, and fables. Examples are provided to illustrate assigning a genre and subgenre to a work.
