Abstract
The engineering optimization problems are large and complex. Effective methods for solving these
problems using a finite sequence of instructions can be categorized into optimization and meta-heuristics
algorithms. In this study, well-known meta-heuristics of Firefly and Shuffled frog-leaping algorithms are
compared on the noisy and unconstrained response surface problems. There are difference natures of
surfaces such as single-peak, multi-peak and curved ridge surfaces. The noise on the response is normally
distributed with the mean of zero and standard deviation ranges of 0-3. A computer simulation program was
implemented in a Visual C#2008 computer program. From the experimental results it can be shown that Fire
fly algorithm seems to be better in terms of the sample mean and variance of design points yields and
computation time.

Effective methods for solving these problems using a finite sequence of instructions can be categorized into optimization and meta-heuristics algorithms. In this study, well-known meta-heuristics of Firefly and Shuffled frog-leaping algorithms are compared on the noisy and unconstrained response surface problems. There are difference natures of surfaces such as single-peak, multi-peak and curved ridge surfaces. The noise on the response is normally distributed with the mean of zero and standard deviation ranges of 0-3. A computer simulation program was implemented in a Visual C#2008 computer program. From the experimental results it can be shown that Fire fly algorithm seems to be better in terms of the sample mean and variance of design points yields and computation time.
