As a young, successful and popular techie @IanForrester was loving life. He had a great job working in BBC R&D and was spending his spare time establishing events like Girl Geeks, BarCamp and the Thinking Digital Conference. In May 2009 this all came to a sudden unscheduled stop. Unbeknownst to anyone, Ian was slowly dying in his own bed suffering a slow hemorraage into his brain. He tells the dramatic story of his life, his brush with death and the road to recovery since then.

We make our ethical decisions often really without thinking. Ethical reasoning gives us the tools to make decisions more thoughtfully. Ethics is a dialogue on living toward actions that count in the world.
Echosec Mapping Social Media -Top finds of 2013 on the Echosec social search mapCloverpoint
EchoSec’s unique way of harvesting and displaying dynamic and user-generated content and public media from sites like Twitter, Foursquare and Instagram, gives EchoSec (www.echosec.net) a completely unfiltered and real-time view of the world. And, as you would expect, the results from EchoSec are spectacular. It excels in the urban environment, but it is equally extraordinary in places where you would not expect to find shared data. Areas like military bases, government facilities, private facilities, disaster zones like Tacloban in the Philippines, and even in ‘impenetrable’ countries like North Korea. The following are just some of the amazing and fun posts spotted on the social search during 2013. Real time updates from emergency situations, wildfires, riots, football games, and even inside the Pentagon stood out!
I want to talk about Paul Allen’s digital footprints.
His sister(Jody) said that he was a remarkable individual on every level, yes EVERY LEVEL. Although I can’t explain all about his various activities, I would like to do several digital footprints to acknowledge him.

Over 80% of our brains are used interpreting visuals. It seems a waste not to take advantage this powerful channel into the minds of our students. What sorts of ways can a single image be used to tell stories and explore complex ideas in Math, Science, Language Arts or Languages classrooms? What could we do with a series of pictures? How can we do this beyond the time and space of the classroom walls and have our students generate a bank of powerful visuals to inspire future students to create even more powerful learning imagery?
In this hands on session participants will mash up their ideas with powerful images, painlessly share them with the group and spend the lion’s share of our time together thinking deeply and discussing our shared vision for what real learning looks like in our classrooms. We’ll touch on ideas of ethical and responsible use of technology, creative commons and some thoughts about visual design.
Bring your camera enabled mobile device. We’re gonna use it. And show you how to take better pictures in the process.
