My work experience is so deep insight all work related to supplier, after graduation from College, my first job is a SQE and I gain my skill and knowledge about supply chain from being Procurement Engineer since year 2000 and the first 4 years in my previous Co. equipped me for all the fundamental of Quality Management. Being a Procurement Engineer with Xyratex, I’ve so much of exposure, it was start from vendor sourcing to an “orphaned commodity”, this is the commodity that do not classified and accepted by any commodity team, I was so lucky that I have the local buyer work with me for sourcing, it is a sourcing that we used to send e-mail / fax, ask around, conduct site visit, negotiate with the owner to accept the contract and then we built the business relationship. We provide onsite inspection, we hand carry parts, we try our best to deliver on time with excellence quality. There are 2 important entities in my work, THE SUPPLIER and THE PART. I sometime separate it and I always related it back. For every single information provide to me about the supplier, I’ll seek all information/specification about the part that relate to the supplier. For 9 years, this mechanism is exercise under ‘Automated” mode. I recognize it as my profession, I always confidence to help buyer and supplier in all technical issues as I’m granted with a title of ENGINEER. (Yes! 4. I like to link my work with designer as I know, they need my help, without my function of transform their need to the supplier, the development will just abandon. I always responsible to lead SQE because I’ve been responsible in vendor selection. My background cause me to keep Engineering, Design and Quality delivered to the Good Part . Mapping it with the elements in supply chain, Time, Value and Support are expected from the Good Supplier , they are influencing each other and gearing each other. In order to have work done, the gears pitch must match. It is Rotating mechanism and thus Driving. An Engineer for Procurement is not same to the Engineer for Engineering, treating the problem with supplier is not same to the problem in machine. Repair a supplier is nearly impossible, Engineering job for procurement become a holistic healing process, (may be this is the reason why Procurement Engineer has not recognize in Engineering Council). I have a task to find and maintain alternative, and I’m bear with the responsibility to ensure the entire system keep on working, where I can find the alternative create greater value ? I’ll continue upgrade myself, I learnt the strategies in supply chain. I realize all the strategies has the root to improve the Company Performance, I’ve to leverage with many people in many departments to make it happen….
