My Beliefs and Values: a Metaphor
Caileigh Broatch
Religion: Growing up, we lived next door to my Grandparents, who are to very religious people, they were a strong influence in our family and how we saw other religions; we believe that there is a Greater Being (God) that created the world and the people, and we are to be true to ourselves for that is how He made us.
Spirituality: There are ideas and lessons that can’t be contained by books or understood through words, it’s within a person and their responsibility to we achieve peace of mind only when we concentrate on doing the right thing here and now. A realization that my grandparents aren’t always correct, and unless I want to be a soulless robot, I have to have my own essence.
Gender: I believe that children need a strong mother figure, however, I also know that no job is gender incorporated. Growing up in a divorced family taught me this, my mother has custody over my sister and I, and the three of us have to split the chores. Garbage, home repairs, cooking, cleaning, laundry… I also lived with my brother for a few months, and he did the cooking, and I did the rest. In some people’s minds, the roles are reversed; but for my family there are no biased responsibilities.
Relation to Land: I believe that it is people’s job to care for the land, as well as the animals. My father and step-mother are very outdoorsy, Nature Nuts if you will, and Linda (my step mother) taught me to respect the land because it is a right and a privilege, for all its beauty and worth.
Ideology: I believe that I am the sort of person that adapts easily to change and influences. My brothers and sisters do not enjoy change, where as my father changes to quickly, I believe that I am the stable in between. I have lived in four different places, Grand Prairie, Provost, Halifax, and Lacombe. In Lacombe, I have had four different houses in Lacombe, and all of them felt like home, because I believe that the faster you adapt to change, the happier and more content you will be.
Environment: A person’s environment is the stepping stones that create the environment they need when they settle.
