This document introduces geospatial metadata and its importance for digital collections. It analyzes the geospatial metadata in collections from Mountain West Digital Library partners and finds inconsistencies that limit interoperability and the ability to create map interfaces. Recommendations include adopting a geospatial metadata standard, completing metadata reformatting projects, and collaborating on interactive map initiatives.
