Tanya Lacey is a British R&B/Pop artist who has written songs for major artists like Will.i.am and supported Bruno Mars on tour. The proposed music video for her song "Born to Fly" draws on theories of the male gaze and synesthesia, portraying Lacey's determined and talented persona through entropic scenes in outdoor locations contrasting with vivid indoor shots and costumes, illustrating lyrics about overcoming adversity to succeed.

2. Some Theorists Ideas
•Mulvey and Goodwin- We will use the male gaze however quite subtly
because we want the video to fit her audience which is more towards the
younger generation.
•Goodwin- We are going to use synaesthesia in our video because we feel it
creates an interesting effect. We were thinking of doing this by filming 2 takes
of a performance and flicking between them, similar to this…

• Strong

5. I know you like the way I'm so ready, Box steady, Why you trying to bring me down, baby you should

When it comes to making cake, well you can be

I’m still gonna be the cherry on top I was born to fly, baby I was born to fly (do you feel me)
Now you say I sold out, I sold out shows now I was born to fly, Baby this is do or die. (do you feel me)
So forgive me if I did a little pop.

better, My feet they never touch the ground, better let it go.
I won’t keep you close, you’re the snake, black
adder,
And if I let you in you gonna bite my shit,
6. Costume Ideas
We are looking to keep redundant to R&B videos in what she wears. Some of our
ideas are similar to recent artists music videos which include people like Rihanna,
Jessie J, Rita Ora ect. All of these artists dress in bright clothing however urban
addressing their audience and genre.
7.
8. • LOCATION- boxing ring, streets, studio.
• Grey buildings, dim outdoor lighting contrasting with the vivid costume-wear and
lighting used indoors.
• STORYLINE- no specific storyline, just a girl communicating with the camera
during the verses, and using synaesthesia during the chorus with takes. We want
it to be entropic- not your typical ‘story’ during the video.
• INTERTEXTUALITY: Could be similar to Rihanna- Rudeboy…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e82VE8UtW8A
• We want it to match the typical conventions of rnb/pop genre, but create an
entropic video, similar to Rihanna’s. It will appeal to a mainstream audience,
predominantly female, age ranging from 13-mid 20’s.
• SHOTS- cut ins that are typical of the genre…tattoos, vivacious clothing, make up,
hair, jewellery etc.
• We want it to be illustrative- the song mentions things such as aliens, cake,
cherries, knives, dessert etc. We could try and incorporate this into our video,
adding some redundancy to R&B/Pop.
• The song is about feeling put down and belittled, and coming out ‘on top’,
achieving great things and succeeding. There is a theme of bitterness, we could
start the video with her illustrating or amplifying this…sucking a lemon and
smiling perhaps?
