Movement
 Music encompasses mind, body,
and feeling
 Movement it is a means of
fostering human capacities for
creativity, imagination, and wisdom.
 Movement of the body and of the
mind is the basis of all human activity
1. Movements boost brainpower.
2. Movements relax our mind and the
body system, thereby allowing the
easy flow of the oxygen and nutrients
in the brain.
3. A child’s pathway of learning is always
through movement.
4. “Movement is the child’s first language”,
reflecting subtleties of thought and feeling
not captured by verbal expression.
5. Dance ( movements) in Early childhood
provides concrete experiences to children.
With movements, children become more
aware of what they see in the world.
6. Physical movements stimulate brain
functions.
What is the Laban
Movement Analysis
(L.M.A.)
It is an effective approach
for observing , describing,
notating and interpreting human
movement. It includes
movements from simple hand
gesture to the complex action of
a skilled athlete.
It is a system that can facilitate
an individual’s access to,
understanding of, and expansion
of their movement possibilities
through the four lenses of Body,
Effort, Shape, and Space.
(BESS)
Body –Sensing, Effort-
Feeling, Shape-Intuiting, and
Shape-Thinking
Who is Rudolf Laban?
(1879-1958)
He was born in Hungary. He is
a dancer, choreographer, and
movement theorist. He developed
the Labanation. This is a system of
dance notation. He raised the status
of dance as an art from. He is the
father of modern dance theory. He
created the art of movement choir.
