Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotyping is important for determining the appropriate treatment regimen. Multiplex PCR is a promising method for HCV genotyping that provides results via electrophoresis, avoiding more costly sequencing. Effective genotyping requires deciding the optimal genomic region to target, testing primer efficiency, and designing region-specific primers. Beyond guiding treatment, HCV genotyping also helps trace outbreak sources and study the role of genotypes in disease progression and mother-to-child transmission.
