This document summarizes a study of Latina women in teaching positions. It discusses the barriers Latina women faced in becoming teachers and administrators. Some of the barriers included fears of discrimination during hiring and being viewed negatively by colleagues. However, the study found that Latina women felt successful in their jobs by employing their ethnic and gender characteristics. The conclusions were that Latina women will continue to be successful and make important contributions to recognizing cultural differences among students. Having more Latina teachers is important to represent the growing Latino student population.
