2. Biography
Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, January 17 1942
named Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr, the same name of this
father. The older of two brothers.
He was initiated into the world of boxing by Louisville
police officer and boxing coach Joe E. Martin, 11 who
had met the young man 12 years to report the theft of
his bicicleta.12 However, unbeknownst to Martin, also
began training with Fred Stoner, an African-American
trainer working at the local community center. 13 in this
way, could make $ 4 a week on Tomorrow's
Champions, a weekly local television that Martin
had, while benefiting from the training of the more
experienced Stoner, who continued working with Clay
throughout his career as an amateur.
3. Boxing titles
Under Stoner's guidance, Cassius Clay won six Kentucky
Golden Gloves, two Golden Gloves national titles, a
national title in the Amateur Athletic Union and the gold
medal in the light heavyweight in the 1960 Olympics in
Roma.14 Mark Clay as an amateur was 100 wins and
only five losses.
He stated in his autobiography of 1975 that threw his
gold medal into the river Ohio after they refused to serve
in an upscale restaurant for whites and have fought with
a group of estos.15 During an intermission of a basketball
game in the Olympics Atlanta 1996 gave a new medal
to replace the loss.
