What will I study?
The MPA consists of three core modules:
Key Concepts in Global Diversity Governance
A comprehensive introduction to the
conceptual, theoretical and practical issues
surrounding the governance of diversity – a
fundamental starting point for your programme
of study.
Intercultural Dialogue in Practice
Based upon Coventry University’s own
research, this module equips students with a
critical understanding and practical toolkit that
allow them to use dialogue to bring people
together and resolve tension - an essential
module for anyone working with diverse
communities.
Global Diversity Governance in Context
From division in Israel and Palestine to
extremism in Australia and the UK, students
are guided by leading experts through some
of the highest-profile global cases where the
challenges of diversity and difference are most
vivid.
To complete the course, you will undertake a
dissertation to explore in more depth an area
of study of your choice with support from an
expert supervisor.

Programme structure
Starting in September each year, the MPA is
designed to be studied over 15 months by
distance / blended learning.
At the beginning of the programme you
will have the opportunity to attend a short,
residential study school (up to 5 days) to cover
the core learning for the module on intercultural
dialogue, and a further study school is offered
for the dissertation stage. The all-inclusive
study schools are included in the course fees
and allow you to condense your learning,
work more closely with our staff, gain tailored
support and to come together with other
students as a learning community and to build
your network. (Accommodation, meals and all
learning materials are provided but you will need
to make your own travel arrangements. Study
schools may be held in the UK, or internationally
depending on where students are based.)
In addition to the residential study schools,
the programme is delivered through online
module materials, small group tutoring and
independent learning, allowing you to fit your
studies around other commitments. Students
unable to attend the study schools can
complete the modules using online materials
with the support of assigned tutors.
Student support
You will be well-supported throughout
your studies with a range of services and
guidance to help you get the most out of
your learning experience with us.
Students are provided with a range of pre-
enrolment materials to better prepare them
for their studies as well as a Programme
Handbook and Module Guides. Online
modules are provided through the virtual
learning environment (Moodle) to facilitate
communications between staff and
students; and among students themselves.
You will have access to Coventry University’s
library, including its digital resources and
library support for distance learners.
Every student is allocated a personal tutor
from the moment of enrolment offering
pastoral and academic skills support.
Extensive guidance and feedback from
the programme team will be provided
throughout.
You will be able to access a portfolio of
non-credit bearing academic skills modules
and support to develop your research
and writing skills, as well as Coventry
University’s Careers and Employability
Service for advice with developing your
career following your studies.
5. Admissions Criteria
Applications can be submitted from April
2016 for courses starting in September
2016. All applications will be evaluated
individually on a case-by-case basis.
Ordinarily, the minimum entry criteria for the
MPA Global Diversity Governance are as
follows:
• Applicants should hold a 2:2 or above
degree (or equivalent international
grade/qualification), from a recognised
University, preferably in a social science
subject (e.g. International Relations,
Politics, Development Studies, Sociology,
Psychology).
OR
• Applications from those not possessing
a first degree at 2:2 or above in a
relevant subject area are also considered
and decisions are based on a careful
evaluation of their capacity to complete
the programme successfully, including
assessment, where appropriate, through an
admissions interview.
PLUS…
• Applicants must have a minimum of 5
years evidenced working experience in a
relevant field to Global Diversity Governance
and be operating in a relevant role at the
level of mid-management or above at
the time of application, or have operated
within a relevant role at the level of mid-
management or above within 12 months of
the time of application. Decisions are based
on a careful evaluation of the applicant’s
Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning
portfolio, an Admissions Interview, and
their capacity to complete the programme
successfully.
• For non-native English speakers, the entry
requirement is English language proficiency
at IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
• Where applicants do not hold up-to-
date IELTS certification, CTPSR will look at
whether an applicant has previously studied
and successfully completed a Higher
Education qualification in English. Where an
applicant does not hold such a qualification
entry will be at the discretion of the
CTPSR, ordinarily decided by the Course
Director. Here CTPSR will assess English
language proficiency through multiple
means, potentially including but not limited
to, a review of application documents,
references, a writing sample, and via a
telephone/Skype interview.
