1. Motivation Letter
My Purpose
I want to develop a career that will help people, make a difference, or change the world
for the better. I have worked to grow myself from scratch; a passive child to a bold,
engaged, and ambitious young adult. I have learned to innovate new things as a young
adult. I believe that I can work hard to develop my country – Rwanda. I would like to
help my country to develop a sustainable economy for the welfare of Rwandans by
becoming an expert in Information system and eGovernment. Why specialized in
eGovernment? I am passionate about IT because I believe that Information Technology
crucially contributes to a country's market development, boosting productivity -- especially in
primary industries like agriculture.
My Background
In high school, I received a distinction diploma in accounting which helped me to
understand business and financial reporting. I graduated high school with distinction
diploma but I didn’t get government scholarship. However God made a way by using
someone from western people to support me for attending university. My standing made
me eligible to be one the few Rwandans who hold a bachelor’s degree. Our
government believes that developing the intellectual capacity of Rwandans is the key to
sustained national development because our country does not have much of any other
natural resource.
I chose to study at the Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA) due to broadness
in area of studying and topics of research. This broadness aligns well with my goal to
become a skilled in Information Technology with broad knowledge, to help my country
solve its problem of using manual systems. I received my passion for Information
Technology from Adventist University of Central Africa and the skills taken from my
Internship in one of the biggest companies in telecommunication here in Rwanda known
as MTN – Rwandacell. My internship was in Database Management System (MySQL
and Oracle), Networking Administration as well as Project Management (PM).
My University training also helped me to be innovative and an entrepreneur. I am one
of founders of OpenTek Ltd with a title of Project Manager. Our company will provide IT
services to businesses and organizations in Rwanda. And as a very young person, I
formed Rusave Farmers’ Coffee Cooperative (RFCC) in November, 2013 in my home
village. RFCC has started with 35 members who grew to 115 members with a certificate
of legal status and I am working with many older farmers that I know from childhood. I
2. had a passion to bring opportunities and innovation to the Rwandan farming
communities. At Adventist University of Central Africa my final project (dissertation) is
the creation of a School Message Notification System where I researched and tested
my system in College la Colombiere Kigali – Rwanda.
My Goals
If I get this opportunity to attend University of Rwanda (U-R), Masters of science in
information system specialized in eGovernment (MSIS) program, I will become better
able to meet my professional life goals and also the goals for the two organizations I
have already started, as well as the companies that I may develop in the future.
My goal for OpenTek is to develop an IT company with an excellent national reputation,
that can hire and train IT graduates to write programs and create new software
applications. I also want to help companies improve their efficiency and profitability
through use of information systems.
My goals for the RCCF farming cooperative is to improve the economic welfare of the
members, by working together and identifying new resources (IT or types of resources)
that can be learned and shared among members.
I am looking forward of hearing from University of Rwanda staff as the good university in
the IT field by offering me this opportunity of graduating in Masters of science in
information system specialized in eGovernment. I believe that it will be a challenging
and engaging program that will uniquely satisfy my hunger for learning, and will place
me on the road to achieving my goals of helping my country to achieve economic
sustainability.
