Mother
By Colleen Maloney ©
She’s yelling again.
Her voice is getting louder and louder
She’s drinking again
Her grip is getting stronger and stronger.
Chorus 1
She says she’s stuck in a rut and it’s the little girls fault
She says it’s not fair she was burdened with a kid she didn’t want.
She says she drinks cuz it’s the only way to get away
She says she drinks to escape from the girl’s ugly face.
She say’s “Look what I’ve given up for you.”
She says, “Do you see what you make me do?”
She’s crying again.
Her tears are falling harder and harder
She’s leaving again.
Her steps are growing farther and farther.
Chorus 2.
She says the man that she loved more than life has just left her.
He didn’t want kids and she should have known better.
She says she wishes this kid would grow up and forget her.
If she doesn’t leave now then her patience will get her.
She says, “My mistake, was ever having you.”
She says my “My life is over…all because of you”.
Oh Mother
I see so clear.
Your face is my face looking back in the mirror
I looked to u and I saw everything…
But I saw nothing when u looked back at me.
She’s calling again…
The phone just rings over and over.
She’s calling again…
And the phone it rings over and over and over and over
Chorus 3
Her message says she’s had no word from her daughter
She says, “What kind of kid doesn’t call their own mother?”
But I’m stuck in the love I found in my own daughter.
And I’m sorry, but I have no time to be bothered.
I say, “My mistake, was ever listening to you.”
I say, “I’m thankful that, you never got through.”
She’s yelling again.
