Moscow is the capital city and largest city of Russia, home to over 11 million people. It was founded before 1147 and is situated along the Moskva River. Moscow is a cultural center known for landmarks like Saint Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin, as well as many museums such as the Tretyakov Gallery and Pushkin Museum. The heart of the city is Red Square, originally called "red" because of its beauty. Matryoshka dolls originated in Moscow in the late 19th century and feature wooden nesting dolls painted with bright colors. Dymkovo clay toys also have ancient roots in Russian folk art and were traditionally made by women and children for local festivals.
