National Name Exchange 2.0 [Overview for UW Depts]Sophia Kristina
The National Name Exchange (NNE) was established to help match graduate schools with minority students interested in graduate education. It seeks to increase the number of qualified minority students accepted to graduate school and improve access to information on opportunities. The NNE assists schools in identifying qualified minority candidates by designating representatives to facilitate information exchange. Students benefit from increased access to schools they may not have otherwise considered. Schools benefit by accessing over 6,000 student profiles nationwide and maintaining year-round communication with prospects. The University of Washington uses the NNE to notify students of on-campus recruitment events and sync prospects with departmental databases.
This document discusses hypothesizing which US universities have the highest density of highly-rated bars and restaurants nearby. It outlines analyzing the Yelp dataset using Python and Leaflet.js to distinguish food/drink businesses and generate location-based visualizations. Methods included analyzing user reviews ("wisdom of the crowds") and data mining to understand implications like Ivy League schools tending to have higher average ratings and every university being surrounded by at least two blocks with many establishments. Future work could involve demographic studies to uncover cultural biases.
Genetic engineering and cloning are complex topics with potential benefits and risks. Major companies involved include Monsanto, the largest GMO producer, and Advanced Cell Technology, which performs cloning research. While GMOs can increase yields and herbicide tolerance, there are concerns about their long term safety and environmental impacts. Cloning achievements include Dolly the sheep, but it remains a developing technology with ongoing research at companies like Cyagra. Debates continue around regulations and labeling as biotechnology advances.

Team Case Study 3 – Week 6
Balanced Scorecard Case – Team Case (2-3 team members)
(Course Objective G)
Many companies are using the Balanced Scorecard System to assist in their performance management. According to Garrison, Noreen, and Brewer (2015) a balanced scorecard “consists of integrated set of performance measures that are derived from and support a company’s strategy” (p. 490). In a Balanced Scorecard System the company’s strategy is translated into a system of performance measures that are used to monitor the company’s performance in meeting its strategic objectives.
As part of a two-member team, your task is to identify and discuss the key performance measures of a balanced scorecard. Then, find three companies that are currently using a Balanced Scorecard System by doing an internet and library database search. Internet searches as well searches of financial databases, such as Yahoo Finance, should help you in your efforts. Then discuss in as much detail as possible the specifics of the balanced scorecard that is being used by these companies.
Deliverable
Your team should prepare a 6-8 slide PowerPoint presentation, explaining the specifics of the balanced scorecard system of the three companies you selected in your research. This presentation should include your analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each company’s Balanced Scorecard System. Be sure to clearly document the performance measures being used by each of the three companies.
Your PowerPoint presentation should be narrated using VoiceThread or similar technology. All team members must participate in the narration of the PowerPoint presentation.
APA standards are required to be followed for this presentation.

The benefits of diversity have been well published both in Europe and in the U.S. Leading-edge global companies know that having a diverse employee base and valuing diversity can greatly benefit the firm. For example, articles and studies have discovered that diverse teams exhibit a higher level of creativity and a broader thought process in solving complex problems.

An employer brand is how employees perceive their relationship with their employer. It relies on unique selling points to attract, recruit, and retain top employees. The strategy also suggests encouraging regions to apply for top employer awards and publicizing them.
For me, it is about creating an “Integrated Talent Acquisition Solution” for the firm, using five key elements for hiring:
1.Diversity (Widening the Net)
2.Employer Branding (Differentiating your Firm)
3.Social Media (Talent Communities & Branding)
4.Cost Effective Sourcing (College Recruiting, Employee Referrals, Job Ads, etc.)
5.Staffing Firms (a much needed Partner sometime)
This document provides recommendations for increasing minority applicant flow and impacting candidate slates. It begins by suggesting reviewing current diversity efforts and proudly displaying them. However, it cautions that a diversity brand review should be done first to assess how diversity friendly the firm truly is. It then provides many specific tactics to consider such as training all recruiters in diversity, leveraging social media like Facebook, targeting minority organizations and media, highlighting diversity on websites and in materials, and establishing metrics to track progress. In an addendum, the author notes their past success implementing these strategies led to significant increases in minority applicant flow and hires exceeding benchmarks.
This document discusses how incorporating diversity into an employment brand can improve that brand. It argues that diversity can help create an image of a company as a desirable place to work for all people, including diverse candidates. It also suggests that diversity can improve employee engagement and innovation. The document then provides questions for companies to assess how well they communicate their diversity commitment through their employment brand. It emphasizes that managing diversity as part of an employment brand gives companies tools to attract new talent and retain current employees.
You should constantly be working to build followers for your company
page on LinkedIn in order to expand your reach. It doesn’t matter if
your business is big or small. Perhaps you don’t need the masses to
follow your company page. You simply need to focus on gathering relevant
followers as a small business or professional services company.
John Torrance-Nesbitt presented recommendations to improve Monsanto's diversity recruiting results. The recommendations were to: 1) Provide diversity recruiting training to make recruiters certified diversity recruiters; 2) Leverage Monsanto's internal employee networks; and 3) Expand Monsanto's image and visibility with diverse candidates through targeted media, career fairs, and sponsorships. The goals were to raise Monsanto's diversity profile, build a diversity-friendly reputation, and broaden the potential diverse employment pool. Support was requested from HR leadership to convey the importance of inclusive hiring and identify issues.
The goal of an Employment Branding effort is to create an image [and perception] that makes people want to work for the firm. Similarly, corporate Diversity efforts are about creating a corporate environment which allows each employee to contribute whatever he or she is capable of contributing. My unique presentation asserts that most companies have not considered incorporating Diversity into the development of their Employment Brand. When taken together, these two efforts can create a sustainable competitive advantage in the hunt and search for talent as well as laying the ground work for “Employer of Choice” designation.
