Lady Macbeth enters speaking to herself, confused about Macbeth's fear and guilt after murdering King Duncan which she sees as a simple act. At a banquet, Macbeth begins acting strangely, pointing at an empty chair reserved for the murdered Banquo and speaking to ghosts, horrifying Lady Macbeth. She tries to calm him but the guests look at them with questioning eyes, humiliating her. Though people now bow to her as she wanted, she feels bad and questions if she feels guilty for her actions, but decides she will not feel guilty and hopes things turn out as she wants.
