Professional experiences: (16 years of librarianship experiences as a
Manager Libraries, Capacity Building Specialist, Library Science Educator,
coach, mentor and Administrator with Ismaili Tariqah and Religious
Education Board for Pakistan (ITREB-P), Mountain Institute for Educational
Development in Islamabad Pakistan (MIED), United Nations Development
Programme Kabul Afghanistan, and The Aga Khan University’s Professional
Development Centre(s) (PDCs) in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral Pakistan).

Major achievement and responsibilities;
Achievements
Drafted and developed a comprehensive policy and procedure
manual for the library system of ITREB Pakistan.
Designed, developed and launched (via VPN) the ITREB
library Intranet service for in campus and remote users.
Identified, analyzed, and successfully adopted an integrated
library system ‘KOHA’ in order to initiation the libraries
automation and management process and constitute an
Integrated Library System of 09 ITREB libraries across
Pakistan.
Monitoring and supervising the cataloguing and classification
process (MARC 21 format) of ITREB Central library Karachi
and 09 ITREB regional libraries’ collection across Pakistan.
Conducted baseline surveys of ITREB central library and 9
regional libraries to devise five years (2013-17) ITREB library
system’s strategic plan which supplement the ITREB Pakistan
mission and vision.
Designed, developed and conducted library orientation sessions
for ITREB scholars, course participants, and other library
members to build and enhance their literacy and effective
library utilization skills.
Envisaged and materialized a close working relationship with
AKU-IED Karachi, International Islamic University Islamabad,
AKU-ISMC London, and IIS London libraries in order to
discuss and share views and information about the
contemporary trends and developments in librarianship,

educational and library related software and hook-up links, new
arrivals, research areas, current publications (hard and soft),
information portals, and HR capacity building etc.
Conducted portfolio analysis surveys of the ITREB library
system and facilities across Pakistan to evaluate and identify the
effectiveness and efficiency of services, collection relevancy,
equipment readiness, strengths and weaknesses.
Prepared ITREB libraries budget (2013, 2014, and 2015) for
staff haring/ development, resources acquisition (print
&electronic), field visits, spaces renovations, furniture and
fixture etc.
Plan and conducted professional development sessions for
ITREB central and regional libraries staff members to enhance
their librarianship capacities and aligned their practices with the
current trends of library and information science.
Developed and conducted library personnel recruitment test
and interviews in collaboration of Human Resource
Department; developed test and interviews assessment reports
and recommendations.
Drafted a concept paper in order to developed archiving
criteria to establish archives section in ITREB, P central library.
Set preferences in the integrated library system ‘KOHA’ to
carried out cataloguing, patrons’ registration/ categories, form
of resources, resources reservation, periodicals indexing and
cataloguing, data import/export, circulation of resources and
various report generations, etc.
In collaboration of IT department a VPN (Virtual Private
Network) backed ITREB Pakistan Library online resource
portal has been launched and accessed across Pakistan.
Supervising and managing the physical facilities of ITREB
Pakistan Library system in order to ensure that the resources
are safe, reachable, effective and well-organized and attractive
for the users.
Categorized resources in order to establish archive and main
collection areas of ITREB central library.
Developed a criteria paper to categorize the whole collection of
the central library.
Aligned the book classification process with the web Dewey
online classification facility of OCLC in order to accelerate the

process of book classification.
Conducted several capacity development sessions for ITREB
libraries staff.
Successfully conducted staff hiring process and activity to
identify competent professionals for ITREB Regional libraries
across Pakistan.
Reviewed and redesigned the Job Descriptions of the central
and regional libraries professional and non-technical staff.
Keeping in mind the institution requirement and our IT
competences I reviewed the Athens, EBSCO Host, ProQuest
(the electronic portals) contents and recommended for
subscription and acquired.
Successfully Installed and implemented the online citation
generators i.e. Noodle tool Express, Easy Bib, and Knight Cite
Constituted book selection committee and devised the
committee ToRs.
Advised and suggested the procurement department about the
procurement of library new furniture and study carrels.
Devised ITREB libraries development plans (2012-2015) and
presented to the Board Members.
Responsibilities
Responsible to develop an integrated system of ITREB libraries
across Pakistan.
Responsible to promote the libraries role in order to develop,
and enhance the intellectual capacity of the civil society
members and community.
Collaborate with ITREB staff and management to plan inquiry
units of libraries and identify appropriate resourcing and
scaffolding to support ITREB based research in Pakistan.
Plan and implement the library orientation programmes.
Establish and monitor day-to-day systems and workflows in
ITREB libraries across Pakistan.
Document ITREB libraries policy and procedures.
Manage Library Team, and volunteers.
Manage and monitor the libraries budget in accordance with

ITREB mandate.
Provision of high quality resources, including e-resources that
meet the reading and information needs of the ITREB
Pakistan.
Maintain the library management system.
Devise library Intranet page and enrichment and updating its
contents.
Prepare and present regular reports that focus on the libraries’
significant developments and identifying future needs.
September –December 2013:- Worked with The Aga Khan
Education Board of Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa) as a
TKN volunteer in the capacity of Library Systems and
Management Adviser.
Advised the board about the library policies and procedure and
drafted the policies.
Identified an integrated library system (Koha) and installed.
Conducted capacity building sessions for library staff in the area
of book classification, MARC cataloguing, assigning subject
heading, and charging system etc.
Developed library charging policies.
Designed library interior settings and fixings.

Reviewed the overall library and documentation management
system for the Afghan Civil Service Institute (ACSI) in the light
of the current and future plans of the institute and developed a
high quality document indicating the courses of actions that
need to be taken;
Designed a responsive library and documentation management
system;
Identified the equipments and materials required to implement
the system;
Prepared a detailed implementation plan of the newly designed
system;
Automated the ACSI library in order to make the library

collection responsive and interactive.
Advised the director of the institute, the Civil Service
Management Department of the IARCSC, and others concerned
on best practices of library and documentation management;
Capacity Development and Mentoring:
Developed appropriate job specifications for the staff required
to manage and implement the system;
Provided training and ongoing coaching support to the staff
ACSI;
Closely worked with the training management division of the
ACSI in developing their capacity in all areas related to library
and documentation management and implementation of the
newly designed system.
Ensures provision of top quality advisory services in relation to
library and documentation management focusing on
achievement of results:
Developed a system for ensuring quality control of the outputs
and regular monitoring mechanisms are put in place;
Advised on the quality and quantity of equipments, materials
and software that are required for implementing a responsive
and future oriented system for the ASCI library;

Institutional Development, Strategic Planning and Policy

Developed a comprehensive master plan for the expansion of
the library and documentation service of ACSI, including inter-
library relationships with other institutions;

1999-2008 The Aga Khan University Institute for
Educational Development Centre Professional Development
Center, North and Chitral (AKU-IED-PDCN &PDCC) Gilgit
and Chitral Pakistan
As a Library Science Officer I have gained the following
experiences
Established an Automated Educational Library (AEL) from the
zero level in both the libraries of AKU-IED PDCN and AKU-
IED-PDCC.
Developed and designed books, journals, and audio and video
materials procurement procedures, rules and regulations for
PDCN and PDCC.
Designed and developed the organizational management and
structure of both the libraries’ reading and viewing resources.
Developed library staff’s training plans, refresher courses (on job
trainings), Job descriptions, assessments and appraisal procedures.
Developed, designed the library information searching system
(this particular searching system provide eight options to a user in
order to acquire their desired piece of information from the
collection).
Designed the library software, keeping in mind the PDCN and
PDCC libraries’ needs.
Designed and implemented the Mobile Library Service
mechanism for WSIP (Whole School improvement Program) and
SIMS (School improvement in Multi-grade Situation) schools in
Northern Areas and Chitral, Pakistan respectively.
Designed, developed and up-load the Library Intranet Page (LIP)
for local users in both libraries.
Plan, design and Conduct library certificate courses, workshops
for WSIP and SIMS schools’ libraries’ resource persons in
Northern Areas and Chitral Pakistan since 1999.
Need-based library courses and workshops were also planned and
conducted for Government, NGOs, and Private sector’s
institutions in the localities.
Conducted Library usage sessions for Course Participants (CPs)
of different center based courses, and workshops of AKU-IED-
PDCC.
Established and organized 42 and 25 school based libraries across
the Northern Areas and Chitral Pakistan respectively.
Automated the Al-Azhar College Gilgit and Al- Amin Model

School Gujal libraries as an special project.
Designed and utilized the Inter Library Loan Service (ILLS) with
IED library.
Transferred the English language section’s audio and video tapes
into computer based Window Media Audio/Video (WMA/V)
format for long lasting utilization of the resources in PDCN
library.
Displayed the new arrivals through Intranet was the then latest
experience of displaying books in PDCN and PDCC libraries.
Provided online books selection facility to the library committee
members and other faculty member including the research team
of PDCN and PDCC.
Developed online educational forum for courses and workshops’
participants of PDCC.
Successful experimentation of low cost and no cost materials in
WSIP and SIMS schools libraries’ establishment and organization.
