2. Mobile phones are still at the heart of financial service
innovation. With nearly two thirds of the African population and
43.7 % of the South African population being rural dwellers,
coupled with over 100 % cell penetration in South Africa, there
are still may untapped opportunities for mobile financial services.
Future proof mobile banking and mobile payment strategies need to be put into place well in advance in order to gain a
strong foothold in the market. It is vital to be an early adopter, before it becomes normal for the average consumer to send
money without a bank account or to pay for goods at the point of sale using just their mobile phone.
On the retail side, there are also major milestones that still need to be reached with regard to the general acceptance of
mobile phones a method of payment. mPOS and contactless payments innovation and acceptance are still relatively low.
Is this lack of adoption due to non-support from the retailers side, poor education on the consumers side, security and fraud
concerns or is it just too early see high adoption rates?
The Mobile Financial services of the future Conference 2014 will take a deeper look into what the future holds for financial
institutions, mobile network operators, handset manufacturers, retailers, consumers and all other role-players in the mobile
financial service ecosystem.
Convergence and interoperability challenges are often a major hindrance in getting mobile financial services to work for all
stakeholders. Getting policies, regulation, agents and infrastructure in place to enable the industry to function synergistically, is
proving to be challenging.
Join Trade Conferences International and the panel of industry expert guest speaker as we meet to explore the current and
future landscapes of mobile financial services, uncover challenges facing the industry, debate how best to move the industry
forward and analyse what untapped opportunities can still be expected.
Mobile continues to
be at the fore front
of financial service
innovation
